Hello folks, just passed my Bike Test on Thursday! Wink

Need some advice on buying a pair of boots as the missus has said she'll buy me a pair as a treat for passing. Very Happy

I've seen a pair of Akito Octane race boots for £50,reduced from £100 & wondered if anyone knew if they were comfortable to wear or knew of any problems with them.

Any other suggestions for comfortable & reasonably priced boots (£150 max) gratefully appreciated.

Thanks for your time. Laughing

I would go for some fully waterproof ones, you never know when you are going to be caught out in the rain, the last thing you want is wet feet.

Also try boots on with 2 pairs of socks on, as in the winter you are likely to be wearing more than 1 pair of socks!

I have some Sidi Rain's, bought them for £95 at the NEC and can't fault them so far. Thumbs Up

What sort of riding are you going to be using them for?
Commuting, fast road riding, going to bike meets, etc?

Try these. I picked them up at the scottish bike show for £139. I don't actually know of anywhere that sells them though. So I don't know the normal price. I was going to buy the sidi sports boots but I seen them sitting next to them and had to have them.

Going to be used for a bit of everything really.

Commuting to work each day (weather permitting),going out for a bit of a blast & travelling for short breaks etc. All round boots really.

They also need to be fairly wide fitting as I find some makes of trainers/shoes can be a bit cramped.I've got size 10.5 feet so need to be fairly roomy.

These are the Akitos I've seen for £50.

Just bought a pair of black Sidi Vertebra boots, seem very comfy and they actually make them em in a size 12, which is pretty amazing! Went round all the sales in January and couldn't find any boots in a 12 at all.

Have some too, they are great, good in the cold, good in the heat, not sure about the wet but has been fine for me when its rained... done 200miles wearing them and they are really comfortable even for long distance also you get the feeling it will protect your feet from being smashed...
I might get some gaiters for if i get caught in a really bad storm or something..

I have a pair of akito octanes!
As far as boots go there fine. I don't really have anything to compare them against but I don't have any complaints.
They fit well and are comfy.
I've only warn them in the rain once and I don't think they let water in Confused
For that price they seem like good buys.

Yeah, I bought them the day before I crashed and my feet were fine afterwards.

i have a pair of Sidi Vertebra 2 boots which I think are quite good. They have an adjustment to widen them at the calf but I find that even then they are not very wide. Confused

I have a pair of Daytona Roadstars. I can highly recommend them. They have never let any water in and I have never had cold feet. They are also well armoured up with lots of protection - but they are still comfortable.

They're not cheap - but your feet are worth it!! Laughing Laughing

Ditto. Much more comfy than my previous boots and have survived one crash with only minimal damage. The squeaking can be annoying but a bit of 3 in 1 soon sorts that. Smile

I paid £50 for a pair of Akito boots to do my test in. Threw them away after, they were relay bad, uncomfortable, they made me sweat and let the water in the rain even though they were meant to be waterproof.
My new ones are great! They are Hein Grekke something or others. Can’t remember what they are called. If you have a store near you go in and just try some on, these are black and have a zip up the inside with a Velcro strap over them.

I have some sidi vertebrae 2 boots, the adjustment at the back is really useful so I can adjust them when I get some leathers. Have had to wear jeans at the moment because I have no leathers. Have an armoured jacket mind.

Try some Aquaboots, they're the best waterproof boots, have good protection and are plain back, plus they're a lot cheaper than sidi books etc Smile
