Well its coming to that time of the year were my Tyres need replacing. Well not urgently, but within the next month. Currently have Dunlop Roadsmarts on and overall they have inspired confidence most of the time, very good in the wet, but seem a bit vague in the dry.

Now I've been looking at Michelin Pilot Road 2 which are £190 a pair and the roadsmarts £180 a pair.

Just wondering has anyone had any experiences of both and which is best?

Bike is Hyosung Gt125R so need something that will warm up well and quickly due to the lack of power. Laughing

No worries Laughing

Erm the I have the GTR version which is practically the same, just with fairings.

Its been mostly reliable, it handles well, goes quite well for a 125 4 stroke. Will sit happily at 60 mph on a NSL road although a constant 70 does get a bit buzzy after more than 10 miles. Never had a problem with keeping up with the flow of Traffic on a motorway.

Fuel economy is excellent 80 mpg mine averages and takes about £22 to fill up. Oil changes every 5,000 miles keeps it ticking over nicely.

Spares are easy to get hold of, just like Jap bikes.

Startright motorcycles is a Hyosung Dealer and can get hold of anything really. Just quite pricey. £100 for a front mudguard for example. Although a Oil filter is £2.

Bad points with mine, the front mudguard could do with an extension as it kicks up lots of spray onto the front cylinder, so keep an eye on the spark plug.

Also because of the above, it kicked spray onto the main ignition cable and corroded it. Was easily rectified by a mudguard extender and tucking the ignition wire further up out the way.

Only other problem i had was a knackered fuel vaccum which caused it to stall under load, easily replaced and is fine now.

Also some models suffer with the sidestand switch making the bike unable to start or stalling when 1st gear is selected with the stand up. Just keep it clean or bypass it and its fine.

Also bucket the thing in ACF50 if used over winter as it can rust quite badly. No worse than any Suzuki tho Laughing

Overall its been a very good bike and ideal for commuting. When money comes to me i will replace it with the 650 version.

Its alot better than the CBR 125 i had anyway.

Thanks mate, its great to have a real world review. Thumbs Up I was a bit weary of Hyosung but from what you say they sound alright.
I think most bikes front mud guards are too short, as on my SuperDuke the regulator, battery and a whole lot of elec bits are all housed in the belly pan, and as a result are always plastered in kak.

£200 dual compound sports touring tyres seems massive overkill for a 4t 125.

I have angel STs on my 600 that I am going to downgrade next time to a single compound touring tyre as I want them to last longer and I don't need the sportiness of the dual compound ST tyres. Something burping out what, 13bhp? doesn't need that good a set of shoes.

Save some money and go for something cheaper Thumbs Up .

From 2006 to current they have really improved. They'll never be Honda build quality but they are reliable enough.

And Donny, I know it sounds overkill but last time I had cheap tyres i nearly ended up on my arse. Something i don't really skimp on is rubber.

And Paddy, i think its sportmax i have on not Roadsmarts. They seem good, just vague in the dry which is odd.

Fair enough mate, what size tyre do you need?

If the pirelli angel comes in your size I highly recommend them, they are so good I feel they are wasted on me Thumbs Up . Best wet weather tyre I've tried, lasted sof ar about 4.5k ont he rear and has about 2mm left, mostly commuting miles though so they are a bit squared off.

Perhaps the vagueness in the dry you're experiencing is due to the Dunlops being designed for larger machinery, something that would work the tyre a bit more.

I'd consider BT45s this time of year for something 400cc and under (although work wonders on my CB5 too).

I think this is the most likely cause of the vagueness in the dry. I use the RoadSmarts on my ZX9 and can't recommend them enough.

Jump off after even a short ride and they are hot to the touch in the dry, even so in the wet.

+1 on BT45's.

+10 on BT-45's,

I mean Pilot Road 2's are great tyres, but i was running them on my R1, so yes i would say overkill for a 125 Razz
