After chatting with the old man, we have decided to look at taking a trip to the TT.

I can get a return flight from Southampton airport for £112 return, leaving on Tuesday and returning the following Monday, will more than likley camp.

Any tips from people that have been previous years?

Expect shit weather, it's in the middle of the irish sea.
Do things early, book camping early, get there early and get to your viewing spot early etc.
The place is basically a small god forsaken rock that only makes money one time of the year Laughing

Its a big island.

The 'events' are dotted all over it.

The Racing os only every other day, and not all day, and its a VERY long course to walk around

And would YOU really feel you have been there and got all you could, watching all the 'lads' tear past, stunting on the prom, hooning it hither and dither, in an orgy of two-wheeled delights, as a pedestrian?

There is but ONE way to go the the island....

ON A BIKE

Cost is the only limiting factor. If I do it this year on foot it will hopfully give me more of an erge to take the bike the year after, plus I'll already know the where to go, things to see for the year after. Im only 20 mins from the airport and this will be a 4 day trip taking in the last day of racing and mad sunday for £150 plus spends.

Couldn't be much further fron the truth, it's been several decades since any businesses on the island have relied solely on the TT to make a living. The Isle of Man makes money all year round, and plenty of it. The Manx national debt currently stands at £0 with a reasonably healthy bank balance in reserve. Just remind me how much the UK national debt is at the moment, to the nearest £Trillion will do. With spiralling inflation and unemployment at 2.25 million and rising, it might appear to the casual outsider that your own god forsaken rock is on the verge of disappearing up it's own ring piece.

To the OP, join the forum on iomtt.com, you'll find plenty of info on there about the course, racing , accommodation etc.

Isn't there that small matter of the Irish Sea to contend with?

I think even the late Evel Knievel would've struggled to get to the IOM by bike.

Yes...... but how much of that ecconomic 'health' is provided by providing 'financial services' and denying the mainland exchequer of a LOT of tax revinue, offering 'off-shore' tax shelters and encouraging non-resident millionaires to buy houses to justify residency to pay lower IoM taxes, while they liuve/work on the mainland.... charging them 'less' than UK tax man, and then using that to discount taxes for the 'locals'?

We could be dissapearing up our own ecconomic arse, but I think that the IoM would suffer badly if we did.... we'd have no rich tax exiles to subsidise your zero debt ecconomy for you, would we?

JUST DO IT!

I can guarantee, if your into bikes, it will be one of the best experiences of your life. Short circuit racing pales into insignificance once you've been to the TT.

Anyway here's my top tips:-

Make sure each of you takes a small radio so you can hear the race commentary.
Watch one of the races from the grandstand.
Take some waterproof clothing. Rolling Eyes
Enjoy yourself! Mr. Green

You do realise once you've been for the first time, that you'll be hooked and be forced to go back year in year out! Thumbs Up

There is a more laid back alternative in the Manx GP. End of August into September so the weather is usually 'better'. It attracts the older 'classic' guys so less hooning around = far less police presence. Racing is good, if not the absolutes of TT. Not as busy but still book early.
I used to decry the IOM as an utter ripoff, but they HAVE cleaned up their act since the '90's, I was very pleasantly surprised this year and our group has rebooked for the next year. (Cant afford the 'ring anymore, damn pension).

Booked Thumbs Up

Flying on Thursday 7th and returning Monday 11th. Not the awsome bike trip I would like but the flights are only £125 return. I'll treat this trip as a reccy for the year after when we can take the bikes.

Take your bike, you WILL regret flying there!

I use this campsite:- https://www.cronkaashen.co.uk/ everything you need and a stones throw off part of the circuit and a 10 minute walk to Kirk Michael Thumbs Up
