If the thread has stripped, or cross threaded so the bolt turns but doesn't unscrew, its often the thread deformation is holding it in like its in a ring, instead of a helix.
You need to make offerings to the gods of metal & pry, yes, pry.
As in, get something under the head, like a knackered flathead screwdriver, and pry it out like a nail with a claw-hammer...
But gently.
I find, if you can turn and pry at the same time, you can sometimes get the bolt to 'bear' on some better threads at some point and start to wind out...
But go carefully; once it starts to grip, you dont want it to shear, and you are likely to be deforming damaged threads.
Once 'out', inspect screw which is probably fucked, but threads in hole likely to be also.
DON'T try screwing another bolt straight in; run down it with a tap to clean the threads first, and see what threads you got.
If tap is loose, you may have to drill out and re-tap over size; or helicoil/plug & re-tap. ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

Thanks I'll give that a try. Unusual really as MZ's are usually pretty good for this sort of thing, have certainly never experienced this before. |

Old Thread Alert!
The last post was made 14 years, 11 days ago. Instead of replying here, would creating a new thread be more useful? |
