Well how did the above happen, was it a sustained attack by a would be thief?

Perhaps I lost the key and I had to use powertools.

No, I simply forgot it was on the rear wheel and I simply wheeled my bike backwards pushing it by hand in my garage. There was a slight clunk and then this.

No damage to the disk or the bike or the swingarm where it must have hit against.

I honestly can't believe it broke.

The inside does not look light solid metal, it looks like a silvery pumice like stone material.

It would have offered zero protection against a thief, I think I paid over £30 for it, I can't remember exactly.

Ask for the £25 of brand-name mark-up on your £5 lock to be refunded?

Which is most commonly known as monkey metal. You should definitely contact the manufacturers and show them those pictures.

I once had to help a mate break a £5 Aldi disc lock off when he lost the key, cheap tat for sure but it still put up more of a fight than that piece of shite.

Letter to manufacturer with photos?

Yeahh a good idea.

I have just sent them the following and I have uploaded the pictures. Lets see what happens.

Hello,

I selected XN10, because I did not know which model I had.

I purchased my Xena Disk lock around 5 years ago and I have used it nearly daily, it has never been outside, it has only been used in my garage.

Yesterday evening, I went to take my bike out of the garage to wash it. Whilst pushing my bike backwards, I heard a clunk. What had happened is I had forgot I had left the disk lock on the rear disk. (The batteries had died in the alarm).

The result can bee seen in this picture, which I have up loaded to the internet.

The Xena disk lock has simply cracked in two. I am amazed by this, I used hardly any force at all. What is worrying is that the insides are very brittle, sort of like a pumice stone type of material but finer.

I would be happy for you to look at my disk lock and advise what has gone wrong in your manufacturing process.

Also to note, there is no mark on my swing arm, nor on my rear disk. Not even a scratch.

The unit I have was not fit for purpose and would have offered zero protection against a thief, could you please let me know what you will be able to do to rectify the problem.

If you want to contact me, I have included my daytime number,

Wow - Not good at all. Let us know what Xena are able to do about it, would be interesting to hear if they are willing to send out another or whatever.

You could always glue it back together, it would probably be stronger than it was before.

It's unfortunate that Googling for Xena disc lock doesn't bring this page up in the first hits. Perhaps some more mention about how Xena disc locks suck might help?

I have a Xena Disc lock, and a second Xena Disc lock. Up until now I thought they were decent, but after seeing the picture of that Xena Disc Lock (which appears very similar to my Xena Disc Lock) I no longer think that Xena Disc Locks are suitable protection for my bike.

Yeah I thought they were decent too. The alarm was a great idea also, because this would get picked up in the house by the baby monitor that I have.

Perhaps this is something that Ride could pick up on, I tend to go on recommendations, best buys etc.

For now i'll use my yellow disk lock that I got from Aldi for a fiver.

I have a cheap crappy one, much like a Xena disc lock, but perhaps not quite as crap. My crap lock (like a xena disc lock) was free with a chain and padlock, and only used to make noise in conjunction with other chains/disc locks (not like the xena disc lock).

That Xena disc lock looks crap though, cheap metal, budget crap, I will not be buying a xena disc lock.

Just to make sure I'm following this properly, are you saying that I should avoid a Xena disc lock? I was looking at a Xena disc lock earlier but now after reading this thread I think that I will avoid Xena disc locks and get something decent instead. I no longer like the look of Xena disc locks.

Dear Kid,

We at XENA apologise to you and other BCF posters for crashing a forum. We realise and respect that this is not a place for manufacturers to shill their products but instead an open forum for riders to share their opinions.

However, as one of your fellow forum writers brought this to our attention, we would like to respond. First of all, we are sorry to hear about the lock in the photo. Secondly, we would submit that it is not ours.

Several points in the photo provided suggest to us that if imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then we should be flattered. Apart from a vaguely familiar shape, this bears none of the marks of the locks we build and appears to be made of materials we do not use.

Copying of our alarmed disc-lock design is common and widespread. Equalling our build quality is not. There is nothing in the photo to suggest we made this lock and we would of course be willing to replace any lock that came out of our factory that behaved this way immediately and at our expense.

Please contact us at info@xenasecurity.com to provide proof of purchase, further photographs and ideally the lock itself so we can investigate the matter further and help us to protect your motorcycle in the manner it deserves.

Many thanks,
Team XENA

Now the top hit for Xena disc lock sucks, but still languishing off the first page for Xena disc lock though. Sad

Handy for me, since I usually do a "product X sucks" search before purchase to find negative reviews.

Be careful of this Kwaka I quite recently found something nasty inside a pie, they asked for the pie in question as evidence. They took it away and simply stone walled me. TBH I'm not after compo or anything I would just rather they tightened up their manufacturing process. As my namesake says I quite like pies.[/quote]

I can't remember if I bought it from Xena direct or from another seller.

But when I purchased it I remember I had a problem with the alarm and that was sorted out by sending me the new insides.

It also had the stickers on like the other posts, also my keys all say Xena on it.

I'll take some more pictures and post in a bit.

What I find annoying is that I did contact Xena but they failed to respond, I provided my name, address, daytime phone number etc.

But they only respond when a forum member points them to this thread.

Why not phone me up/write/email.

And now they are saying it's a fake.

(I hope I can find the receipt, but tbh I doubt it).

The reason they most probably came to this thread was for the sole reason of bad publicity the website is causing. Why express feelings to one person when you can reach the majority at the same time, simple marketing tactics.

It doesn't work though, bad publicity I mean. Searching around DK motorcycles had a horrible reputation for selling a ringer bike.

Yet strangely people are quite happy to spend money and even buy bikes from them.

If BCF mob rule worked DK should be out of business by now.

Laughing My friend suggested I tried them as they are quite local when I wan to upgrade to a bigger bike in the far future. Oh an of course the bad publicity will never work as consumers need it to affect them personally before they change their opinion.
