I've never had to use an HPI check thingy. What's the deal with them? If I phone them with the details of the bike, do they give me the run down on it there and then? Or do I have to wait for a day or two or whatever?

Also which is the best company to use? Are they all much the same?

They will tell you all the stuff you want to know there.

Then and they will also send you a hardcopy as a receipt as most companys offer a guarantee on the info that they supply.

As there not always right make sure that you supply the engine number and frame number as well.My mate bought a transit which was stolen the but HPI showed clear.

I use Experian

You supply the reg and they tell you ( i think mine was during the same phone call) last know milage, last reported condition, date of reg, engine number, frame number and if its been reported stolen/crashed/written off.

They ask you to supply them with info concerning the bike if its different to the info they give you so they can cross reference it.

You then get a hard copy in a day or two and they will pay out "x" amount if the info they supply is wrong.
