 |
|
Was going to change the oil and filter on my 1997 CBR 600 but I cant get the fairing off. Quite a few of the fasteners are rounded and I am at a loss how to get them out. There are two sizes of fastener and it is the really small ones that are the problem.
Bought this as my winter bike and want to give it a bit of a service.
Any advice welcome ____________________ Current Bike: 2004 Suzuki Bandit 600S

Thanks Paddy I get the dremel way, don't have a dremel but have been meaning to get one (christmas list).
I probably have some torx bits but unsure how you mean with a hammer. ____________________ Current Bike: 2004 Suzuki Bandit 600S

Hammer the bit in. Or use an impact driver. If it's already rounded off so that an allen bit just turns then you're unlikely to make it worse by hammering a different bit in.
Worse case, carefully drill the heads off, get the fairing off, then mole grips on the stud and get it out that way, with plenty of lube first. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

If the srews are on the fairing, I doubt you'll be able to hammer a torx head in tight enough without breaking the plastic. If you can get a good grip, mole grips might do it though. Be careful using a drill or the like as you could melt the fairing. I've also been able to remove some rounded off allen screws with a flat bladed screwdriver.
here's what we mean by using a torx head to remove rounded off allen screws. it's got be hammered home really tightly to work.:-

Apart from the dremel way, if I do manage to get them out then I obviously will need to put new ones in. One is under the bike so not much room for manoerve.
Never had a faired bike before, so are these fixings easily available from wemoto or someone. ____________________ Current Bike: 2004 Suzuki Bandit 600S
