My missus has had a letter come through the post asking for £60 due to the fact she entered a congestion charge in her car. I know ignorance isn't an excuse but it was her 1st time driving in and around london and her sat nav took her straight through that way.

(if she had listened to me it would have been fine)

The charge was on Great Dover St which is in se1. Before just paying it I thought it might be worth making a thread and seeing if there is anyway I can get out of it or even get it reduced.

Anyone else had any experiences getting out of these?

Thanks

Nick

Isn't there a big red C painted on the road to let you know you are about to enter the congestion charge zone for all roads leading into the zone?
Doubt you can get it reduced but for future reference if you go into the zone by accident you can pay the normal day rate to enter at any time even after your drive as far as I am aware

I thought this is why we paid road tax?

We do, but the scum have learned they can extort money with impunity.

Dartford crossing, major congestion problems...get rid of the tolls? Nah, build another fucking bridge (and charge people to use it). And this when the original pledge was that the tolls would be removed in 2000 (after the bridge had been paid for by said tolls).

The establishment...a criminal mafia.

I'm down London way this weekend, my brother mentioned something called the LEZ, low emmision zone. My old van just creeps in to the regulatons at the moment, but not after Jan 2012. It seems you will ALL have to buy a Euro cat 4 emmisions vehicle just to drive Greater London next year....... WTF!

It hasn't actually directly paid for the roads since 1937.

Thumbs Up

Can't see it somehow.

That road is very clearly marked, with warnings well before it and the camera is placed before the first opportunity to turn off.

Sorry mate, think you might have to suck this one up.

As for the LEZ, at the moment it only applies to commercial vehicles, but I wonder how long it will be before it's private cars as well.

If she's relying on her sat nav and is so fucking blind or stupid that she cannot see massive red C's painted on the road and warning signs about the zone or understand what they mean, maybe she should stick to cooking and ironing, as driving a car is clearly beyond her. Rolling Eyes

I've never had to drive into london so know nothing about the congestion charge or the big Red C. As mentioned I will have to suck this one up and pay it.
Sad

The what now?

The way to get out of paying it is to not pay it. Whether you've got the stomach for the escalating harassment and demands you'll receive from TfL and their thugs is a separate question.

My Sat Nav yells out "CONGESTION ZONE" when it's plotting a route that goes through one. Laughing
