I am having so many issues with my bike at the moment
It is running very badly.
It is running and you can ride it but it certainly isn't good.
The carbs were taken out and cleaned about 6 weeks ago due not running without choke (would die as soon as you took choke off).
Turned out the idle jets were all blocked.
When the carbs went back in, initially when I closed the throttle it would still hold revs for a couple of seconds.
I managed to narrow this down to a leaking air box seal on one of the middle carbs. This was rectified and it seemed really happy for a couple of days.
Next it started to get really difficult to start to the extent were I started to worry about the battery running flat.
When it did eventually start, I found it would keep trying to stall and I would need to adjust the idle screw to stop this happening. When I got this adjusted to a good level it would be fine for a period of time until the engine would get hotter.
At this points it would start revving higher and higher at idle.
I would be sat at idle at the traffic lights with it revving at 6000 rpm, fumbling with the idle screw to turn it back down, which would rectify the problem for now, but would mean it would need turning up again the next day when it was cold.
Now when I leave it idling, the revs only remain constant for short periods and will spike or drop all of a sudden, which can cause a stall or just to run really lumpy, with occasional popping from the exhaust.
It will all of a sudden decide it wants to run at 3000 rpm for 5 second then a min later be almost stalling at 1000rpm.
I have checked the air box/inlet rubbers seals on the carbs by spraying easy start around the area and I am not getting a rise in revs so I think this is fine.
I thought the carbs may just need a good balance, but I got some gauges and it seams to be running so badly its proving very difficults to balance. With the gauge needles jumping all over the place and adjustment to the screws making no visual difference to what I am observing.
I am kind of at a loss now, apart from take the carbs back off to recheck every thing.
The only thing I can think off that would cause this would be an air leak. Is there a better way to test for this? What would you do in my situation?
This is taking far to much of my time and I have now taken the bike off road in my garage to get this rectified as I don't want to end up causing any damage to the bike.
Any help much appreciated. ____________________ Current Rides: GSXR-750 WS, GSXR-1000 K5, KTM EXC 300 |
