Hey, I'm looking for some advice.

I'm 20 and my 2 year restriction runs out end of Feb 2012. A few months ago I got a speeding ticket (stopped at roadside) and got 3 points and a £60 fine.

I recently received a NIP through the post for speeding again. Am I going to lose my licence? What are the chances I'll be offered a speed awareness course? It was on the same road and they always sit in the same place however I can't remember seeing them on that day/time!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Maria

PS. Yes, I know I'm an idiot for speeding... twice!

Yes under the new drivers act you will loose it.

I'm no saint but surely if you know they are active on that road it would be sensible to keep it clean???

So you lot think there's no chance of a course instead of the points?

Or sucking off the judge and getting away with it...?

In all seriousness though... I'm devastated Sad

The road goes 30-40-60... it's stupid as there's nothing there apart from fields. I checked the spot where they usually sit and they weren't there so god knows which part of the road they were on.

That does suck, specially as I am the same age as you and my insurance is ridiculous already without points on there Sad

What was the speed limit, and the speed alleged?
What Constabulary, as not all offer the chance of bribing them, (sorry speed awareness course).

Which limit were you in and how much over it were you?

I got offered a speed awareness course when I did 36 in a 30 but not sure if it would be an option for you as it's not your first offence.....

Apparently it was 46 in a 30.

It sounds bad I know, but like I said the road is 30 for about 1/4 of a mile if that then it goes into a 40 for another 1/4 mile then it's a 60 for a few miles so it's not like I was haring through the city centre or in a built up area.

I realise this will make no difference to them, I'm just saying that I wasn't riding completely irresponsibly...

It's possible you'll get away with sucking off the judge but I think you're bang to rights for the speeding Wink

One way out might be a very understanding friend with a clean licence Wink

As said above, that will mean you lose your licence and will have to retake your theory, mod 1 and mod 2.

I was also told by my examiner that if you lose your licence via the New Driver's Act and retake it your two year restriction period will start over again, so you'd end up having to take your Accelerated Access when you are 21, this may be wrong though.

As said above, you can take the hit or, of course, SOMEONE WHO ISN'T YOU could let someone take the hit on those points in exchange for plenty of favours. Wink.

Bad luck, sorry to hear about it. Thumbs Down!

Too high a speed for the offer of a course, you might be able to plead for a short ban, rather than the points which will have your license revoked.

And who gets that? driving school or DirectGov.com?

IIRC, with the CBT the gov. gets about £40. Not sure how the prices for the tests equate, but I can imagine they would take a cut from that too. After all, it's the gov.

Before you get all emo, (im hoping your just sarcastic) you need to find out what was used to get you.

Camera?
Van?
Gun?

Then, find out which make and model of the above.
What were traffic conditions?
Weather conditions?
Road layout?

As for the restest and 2 years restating; that is true - unsure about Accelerated Access since I don't know what it actually is but it sounds logical.

Surely it wont make any difference which gun ect it was?

As I said, it's a straight country road with the limit going 30-40-60 with no real point. It may as well just be a 60 straight away.

Dry roads and I don't remember how many cars; perhaps just one or two. No side roads or houses just fields.

Can I really plea for a ban?

I'm 2 months away from being unrestricted. I'll be totally fucked if I lose my licence.

Yep, because certain guns have readings affected purely by things like mobile phones, so if a copper has his phone in his pocket then it could give an innacurate reading.

Also, how it was calibrated. How does he, or you, know that the reading wasn't from a bush blowing in the wind at the roadside?

Seriously, if you really value your licence get onto it and find out what was used, how it was used and anything to backup it's reliability.

The reason they get away with it is beacause most of Britains sheep-like road users bend over and swallow a fine/points to avoid the stress of a legal fight.
