Ok short and sweet. I will have bin been riding a RS125 for a year next march, Ive just passed my big bike test. Will my 1 years NCB count next year when I come to insure a ninja 600? I was just thinking because its a 125; will my ncb count because its a smaller bike.
thanks |

Yes it will.
Its a year on a 2 wheeled bike, you could earn 10 years no claims on a Honda 50 and insure a Ninja 600 and it would count |

Yeah your NCB will count as previously said but with regards to the 5% figure, I'm pretty sure if your a youngun that your NCB will help you out majorly. I found that 1 years NCB made a difference of over £200 on a modified RS50, a big amount. But there are so many other factors taken into account it'll vary for everyone |

It's No-Claims-Discount.. you only get it if you dont claim, and it ent March yet.... dont go counting chickens until they hatch.
Next; Not all Motorcycle Insurers GIVE No-Claims.
Traditionally, there was no 'Industry' NCB scheme accross the business, as there was/is with cars, as it was a specialist niche market, and so many riders, not continiousely riding for many years.
These days, more common, but, CHECK THE SMALL PRINT
If the insurer offers NCB, it may not be 'transferable' to another company, they call it a 'loyalty reward', and 'suggest' that you will get a big 'No-Claims-Discount', but check the small print, may only be awarded if you 'renew' the policy.... and in many cases, NOT accepting a renewal, and getting a new quote as a 'new customer' thier new customer insentives are often bigger than any 'loyalty reward'... ironic that, isn't it!
Back to chickens & eggs; No-Claims-Discount, isn't garanteed, until you have a certificate or letter in your hand, from your insurers SAYING, "You have earned X Years No-Claims Discount"
And SOMETIMES they will NOT automatically send it to you, with a policy renewal.... so if you dont 'renew' with them, or go back to them, you have to ASK them to send you 'proof' of NCB to give to your next insurer and SOME more unscrupulouse insurers (hey they are insurance brokers they are ALL 'unscrupulouse... merely a matter of degree!) will tell you that they have a standard admin charge and want £30 or something just to send you a letter, telling you you have NCB.
THEN:.... its only worth anything if whoever you NEXT go to get insurance from ACCEPT NCD...and when you get a quote ask for any NCD, and actually give you and discount for it.... AND accept the 'proof' you got from your previous insurer!
In other words...... No-Claims-Discount MAY not be worth the paper it ISN'T written on, EVEN if you have some.... BUT you have to have got it in the first place.
Can be useful, BUT, it's not something you ought to be 'banking on' or you could be very disappointed.
In twenty five years, you know I think I have only ever earned two no claims bonus.... first one, gained on a moped policy, when I got a 125, no 'bike' insurer would accept... (though it DID get accepted on a car!) next, I earned on I cant remember which bike, think it was the VF, but when I came to renew, actually got cheaper quote from a co who didn't offer NCB, and when I went to put it forward for a policy on another bike, think it was the 750, was told it was 'redundant' becouse by then it was over five years old!
So.... first up congfratulations on passing your bike test, and gaining a FULL LICENCE.... no such thing as a 'big bike test' or big-bike licence.... there's no law says that you have to get a bigger bike! Have you got full unrestricted 'A', or are you on 33bhp restrict BTW?
If you are looking at Ninga 6's, in THE most loaded insurance group, and hoping that that one years NCB will half the silly quotes you re likely to get..... you may like to reconsider.
Aprillia RS is Group 7 insurance and loaded heavily for being a 125, then a sporty 125, and then again for being a kiddie-go-kwik machine, so often de-restricted.
The Suzuki GS500, is actually the same insurance group; but quotes are often cheaper for them....
If you are on 33bhp restrict.... then a Super-Sport 600 is probably not a great choice; you will be paying insurance premium based on it being a full power bike, and they are, like the Aprillia heavily loaded, as one of the higher risk catagories of bike....
The 750 class is often actually cheaper on insurance as not so popular with newbies, and some-one recently explaining that a ZX7R was actually less for them to insure than a ZX6R!
If you are restricting it, you'd be paying full price insurance and running costs, and not getting the benefit.
And TBH, that GS500, would need restricting, and not as much, so go as fast, be carrying less weight, feel less strangled, and likely to cost less to insure than your Aprillia...
BUT, this is insurance... legalised extorsion ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

Mike, can you name any motorcycle insurance companies that currently don't give or accept transferable NCD on a standard policy? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

How is the insurance no claims bonus calculated?
Insurers calculate the no claims discount in different ways, but it usually builds up each year to a maximum of five years. You can typically expect to earn a 10% discount after one year of claim free driving; a 20% discount after two years; 30% after three years; 50% after four years and up to 75% after five years.
And TBH don't waste cash on protecting your NCB as it will only be protected when you stay with the same company...... ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

I found my first year of NCB reduced my premium by 24%, but of course I was a year older and such.
Make sure you do quotes on any motorcycle BEFORE you buy it, depending on what you mean by "Big bike test" it may have to be restricted which has to be done and depending on your age, ZX6Rs of almost any age are likely to be £1500-£2000+ to insure TPO, they are very expensive for younger people with a year of NCB or not.
Best of luck. ____________________ "Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul."
