Do you mean it HAS to be max power limit, or merely 33bhp complient?
About THE cheapest bike to insure is probably a Honda CD200... 15bhp, its a 125 with added 'chug', but usually cheaper than most 'boring' 125's sitting in a hole in the insurance groupings.
600's tend to be most loaded becouse of the popularity of the class.
500 twins, tend to be 'reasonable', but attracting so many 33bhp early-riders they aren't AS cheap as perhaps they could be.
GS500 is a pretty good choice though; is one of the cheapest on insurance.
Howebler.... bike value often has as significant influence as model.
If you fiddle about with the options in the quotes; you'll probably find that the GPz500s doesn't come far off; especially older / cheaper example. ER5 wont be too far away, and the Honda CB500 will be in the same ball-park. ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

Groups are pretty irrelevant.
Think the KTM 990 Superduke is group 14/15 and the GSXR750 is the same.
One of those is half the price of the other on insurance.
Also a TL1000R is a high insurance group...and its cheaper than both the above bikes |

Same to insure 3rd party as it was to fully comp.... Strange situation at the time... around £100 for me hasn't move much on price since
No bugger can nick it and with alphadot no one wants to
And as if your going to ride it like a hooligan, all year round... No once a month during the summer
Well thats what they think lol ____________________ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi thanks for the replies,
i am aware that my age, location etc will have an effect, but I was looking for a bike which will generally be cheap to insure.
Im getting quoted £800 odd on sv650, and £550 on the gs500.
and yep, im getting quotes on a daily basis, except I wont be getting a new bike till atleast June 2012 .
I also have an outstanding claim with injuries. grr. |

My mate is selling a couple of cracking GS500's, drop me a PM if you're interested and I'll give you his number. He is a professional motorcycle mechanic so they are well maintained.

Pointless getting quotes now as prices will have changed by the time you are looking at a bike.
Yes I know you are trying to get a feel for the prices, but a rash of claims on one type of bike will see its cost soar on quotes.
Could also be time of year will effect prices, as a lot of people will get a winter hack. Often the very bikes you are looking at, and that could be inflating any prices. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

Age and price of the bike have a massive effect on premiums. I was looking at either a Hornet 600 or a FZR600. In the end I bought an FZR. I'm getting quoted £680 quid for a 1995 FZR600R (Bought for £800) TPFT. Whereas about a 2001 Hornet (worth about £1500) was getting me quotes of 620 quid TPFT, which is not much of a difference to say the FZR is a sports bike and I'm only 18 with 1 year NCB. And with the added few hundred quid of the bike price, the FZR was (surprisingly) the cheapest option.
So there are too many variables to say that a certain bike is going to be cheapest for you. Just look at bikes that you like, and if you think there is a chance you would buy one, just do a quote online (try www.thebikeinsurer.co.uk). It only takes about 5 minutes to do and it can help you decide whether a certain bike is an option for you.
All I did was go on websites like ebay, biketrader, and looked at private ads and dealer ads. Then if I liked the look of the bike I'd go on thebikeinsurer and get myself a quote. If it was too much I'd move on.
Hope that helps. |
