It's 9.05am. It's a little chilly here in Nuneaton; there is frost on the ground, and the radio is reporting local temperatures as low as -9, going further north.

I have JUST put Smiler out on the start of the LONGEST journey of his short riding carreer, to ride 70 miles, back home to Stoke-on-Trent, navigating by road-signs and dead reckoning.

If you see a GRIN on a Red Super-Dream on the A5 or A34.... be nice to him....

If you see him anywhere else...... stop him & put him back on the right road, will you!

Well, I got a 'phone call about 1pm.. he'd conked out in Cannock.

I got a text at about 20 past, after suggesting he try bump starting it; to say he had found a Renult Garage, who were kindly charging his battery for him.

Donny; I think you mourn the 80's too much! He came down so we could try and sort a few problems he had with the bike; MOST of them it seems his local garage butchering his electrics for the sake of a duff earth contact.

Flat battery on longish run; I SUSPECT will be down to that same heathen electrician or Smiler, and the 'red-wire' on the regulator either not being pushed properly into the connector block, snapped, or disconected. BUT....

3pm & NO word yet from the lad.....

Have to say, though credit is due; he's got an AA relay card in his back pocket; he could have wimped out; but he REALLY wanted to do this 'run', his first 'long' ride out of Stoke!

He had asked Tef if he was OK. 8 hours later and he had finished answering. (Sorry Mike, it was way to easy!)

I can't see how he could ride home at anything like normal speeds to be honest. I live about 8 miles away from him and it has been snowing since 12. Hope he's OK.

Smiler's Wife/Girlfriend/Mum hears a knock at the door, finally he's home.

This is what they are faced with.

It will probably take him as long to thaw out his hands, to be able to type anything on here about 'being okay!!'

Tef, I hope you spared him some newspaper to stuff down his troos?

Hi mike, finally got home had a few major incidents one surrounds the A5 roundabout with a van doing an failed insurance claim (swerved in front of me then braked hard for no reason) Didn't damage me but broke an indicator case and bent a mirror.

The other which was the issue (with the supposed battery) the spark plug came out whilst riding, put it back in and it worked all the way to the renault showroom in cannock. However had to get AA to get me home due to apparently it has lost compression on that side which is why its causing problems will do a video when the weather picks up.

Other than that it was a fun enjoyable journey oh and apart from the drunk truck driver.

by the way 60mph is fun and cornering)

So, why did you make him ride 70 miles on a bike that barely works? Laughing
