Just got a bus lane penalty notice (hope there's not any more on their way). I don't suppose there's any getting out of paying the fine is there? Any experience of this guys (and gals)?

Where did you get caught? Fortunately, the only non-motorcycle bus lane on my normal route to work is right after my office, but I wouldn't have known this unless I looked very carefully. It's good money-maker for the boroughs. In Westminster, only around half of the bus lanes allow motorbikes.

By Islington council on Clerkenwell Rd. I've used that one every day Embarassed This is dated two weeks ago so I guess more will be on their way!

Thanks JC, I will take a look.

Maybe not. Don't count your fines before they hatch. It's possible it's a camera car that just happened to be there that day.

I used to go that way, and then turn right up Grays Inn Road or carry on all the way to Tottenham Court Road, before rejoining the ring road, but that was months ago, so I must have either accidentally missed that bus lane or the camera wasn't there/working. I now just stay on the ring road, up through Angel and King's Cross, because it's a bit quicker. As far as I can see, all of the bus lanes on that route are fair game except the one going past Finsbury Square.

I'll have a proper look tonight but Google Maps (June 2012) has a CCTV camera just behind the side road I come out of and a bus lane sign with no motorcycle logo on it.

I took the A40, then A316 a couple of times but my favoured route these days is across Waterloo Bridge and up to the A3.

If you do get a shedload of them through, it'd be worth checking whether the signage is all correct, and that a Traffic Order is actually in place for that bus route.

PePiPoo will be delighted to assist.

Watched a programme on this, I think they do it in other boroughs as well, if you can not knowing your area stay out of bus lanes, they don't make it very CLEAR on signs,

Just a fine.

A penalty charge, levied by the local council. Who will spend as much of other peoples money as it takes, and pursue you (without mercy) to the ends of the earth to collect.

To confirm, no points (thank God). Expecting more of the buggers, will see over the next two weeks. Will definitely be appealing as they could only say no.

Thanks for the advice! Thumbs Up

Thanks for the link. After three rejections of my appeals, I took it to the adjudicator but before I had a chance to appear, the council have written to me to withdraw. Nice win. Thumbs Up

From my research regarding London, all Tfl (red routes) allow motorcycles in bus lanes. All (yellow routes) are decided by the borough council so some are and some aren't.

But the main thing is that if the motorcycle logo doesn't appear on the blue sign then don't go in it.

On that subject, does anyone go through Battersea via Wandsworth? I pass through daily on my commute and see most bikers go down the bus lane just after the roundabout. I've noted that it doesn't allow motorcycles but it doesn't seem to stop them. Perhaps theres no cctv so they don't enforce it?

Good stuff, more people should take them to ajudication. Councils are defeated about 50% of the time at ajudication. But this time they caved in beforehand, they must have had a terribly weak 'case'.

I won at PATAS due to them failing to include a statement from the camera operator.

Well FYI.. The wankers who are temporarily in 'government' in Edinburgh (Scotland) refuse to let motorbikes/skooturz in any of their fecking Bus Lanes unless rammed into one by being struck by one of their Trams, Buses or 'Licenced' Mini-Cab Drivers. Smile

Fuck going to Edinburgh, It's a tip. Mad
