FWIW I know of a guy who has been several times and last I heard is waiting for his mother to die so he can move out there permanently. He's looking for a little bit of land so a little more than an apartment but, yes, dirt cheap. When he moves out there he'll be a rich man.

When I was over there a few months ago I saw an advert for a 5 bedroom house with servants quarters , swimming pool the lot, place looked like what you'd expect to see on MTV Cribs.

All for the princely sum of £110,000 I shit you not.

But theres technicalities about buying property over there, something to do with the land being owned by the king and "Farang" arent allowed to buy it.
This however doesnt stop you buying an apartment thats in a complex since that land is paid for/owned by someone else, so you can live on the 34th floor of a complex no probs. This also gives you an amazing view of Bangkok especially at night as you can see below

Plenty of countries where you can get a house let alone an apartment for 30K. Just choose countries with a low population density, Canada, New Zealand, USA, Mexico etc etc.

Dads just built a house in thailand to retire to. Didnt spend too much on it and apparantly its really nice.

You can get huge houses in thailand for little money. And farang can own them, apply for a thai visa and get thai citizenship.

Oh and...*AHEM*

If you would be interested in a house in thailand...

I have the deeds for a nice house, new, on private land, single storey, tiled floors, 3 beds etc. etc. good sized home with private drive yadda yadda which I would rather like to sell.

Its about the same size as say....a £300k house just outside a city in the midlands.

Its in a nice village, near to a market so food is readily available which is already cooked, along with shops banks etc. Has thailands top university a 20 min walk away, and a couple of mins drive from the highway, so transport links are extremely good. Oh and its near to thailands second major city, chiang mai.

And all im asking is a mere £30k...may even negotiate. So...please buy it, im desperate to get shot of the damned thing.

Can even advise on thai citizenship...

Before you all say it, yes Im 19, and I own a house, fully paid for, legal and i already want to sell it.

Im originally thai, when I was younger my uncle was in problem financially and owned this land. My father used my savings to buy it from him for cheap.

My mother still held a small part of the land, and very very stupidly (I dont get along with my mother one bit), she built this house on my part of the land with the false hope I would happily give her the land for no money. As she built this without my consent and its on my share of the land the house had to be registered to me, so I own the house and the majority of the land, apart from a strip at the bottum of the garden.

I never wanted the land, or the house as I have no intention of returning to thailand. My mother lives on benefits as shes disabled, but the council have found out she owns land in thailand so have stopped all her benefits due to her assets, as she doesnt want to return to thailand because all her family is here, shes been cornered into selling her share of the land to regain her benefits, so I may as well sell my share too as itd be easier to sell it all to the same person, so they own all of it.

Problem is, selling it, people in thailand cant afford it unless theyre on a high flying job, and its hard to find buyers in the uk.

Hard to believe story, but if you ever met my mother you would understand.
