I'm not worried about ye-olde tank slapper, I never go fast enough, but it strikes me this might be a good mod on any bike considering the state of UK tarmac these days... any views, flame away Confused

Youll only need it if youre riding pretty hard but by all means get one.

Think of it like a condom that youd rather have and not need then be the other way round Cool

Having it and using it once is a testiment to having bought one Smile

Sorting your suspensions out is a good way of curing them. A steering damper is just masks the problem.

I too have thought about this, but have never experienced a tank slapper, only heard horror stories.

does it only happen at high speed?

Is a dampener really going to benifit me on a supermoto? how will affect my sliding learning?

£400 for my SMC not really tempting Thumbs Down

If you're not worried about tank slappers, then a waste of money for the cure, really.

Some bikes are more prone to them than others - if you've got an early R6 (which didn't come with one, most modern sports bikes seem to) and ride it enthusiastically, then certainly worth considering. But then you've probably had quite a few already.

The 'blade with 16'' front wheel would try to yank the bars out of your hands if you hit cats-eyes at an angle. Worse places were the Horseshoe pass and Long Hill, I reckon they make the 'eyes taller on moorland roads because of snow covering. Tried a steering damper and it definitely helped, but converting to a 17'' front eliminated the slap entirely.... Not definitive as modern sports bikes geometry is even more radical than the old 'blades.
