Ran out of petrol coming up the A64 from Scarborough towards Malton, did 12 miles on reserve not going about 60/70. Stuck a fiver in at the Malton petrol station.

Need to get back to Leeds which I clocked @ 47.3 miles on the way here... reckon I'll get back on a fiver (plus whatever was left in reserve)?

I'm on a GPZ 500s. If it's doable, what speed should I stick to?

Yea, Sit around 50mph on 70 zones fairly close to cars.

I've got home on the reserve light on the GSXR sitting in 6th at 4k rpm ... overall was 24 miles.

It should help if I tuck behind the screen as well, I hope.

I just feel like an idiot tucking in at 50mph on a 500cc motorcycle, lol.

any oppertunity you have to pull in the clutch and coast then do it. Especially before red lights etc. Try and avoid using the brakes as much as possible and try not to stop.

Just keep slightly tickling the throttle. Avoid the brakes at all cost.

motorway it if possible. Stay at 40mph or 50mph in top gear. Keep on your toes for other drivers not expecting you to be going slowly. Use your right hand or brakes if you really HAVE to. It's better to have to push your bike a few miles than it is to get wiped out.

Ride to next station, brim it, fill in their "could not pay" form, ride off and await the bill.

If you're on a FI bike (I don't know what it's like with carbs) then you're most likely to be using MORE fuel by coasting on the clutch. It is also very bad in an emergency

Wow you run very close to the limit Shocked

Personally I wouldn't ride out of town without enough money to get me to my destination and back several times in my account, and on a long trip enough cash to get fuel to get a few stations along too. I also stick to at least 1/4 of a tank. But maybe I'm just paranoid Wink

40 mph is too slow for the motorway imo, don't pull in the clutch it uses more fuel than engine braking. I'd stick to 55 ish and try to tuck in behind a truck.

Yeah I usually keep up my obs even during normal riding, no use having to slam on for red lights. It's great when everything runs fluidly.

Wish I didn't have to ride so close to the edge, but I'm on the dole as of now. I was riding out here for a job interview lol. I'd be better off just joining the likes of Shenise and Kyron and just living off the state it seems!

(Only kidding, I actually want a job).

Someone on here was managing 100mpg with a gpz500s (or may have been er?) running at 45mph with 'good' throttle control.
So if you play it right, you should have 80 miles at least out of your fiver Smile.

Ha ha, at the moment I'm lucky to have an emergency 20p under my seat!

I'm pretty sure you can claim the costs of travelling to an interview from the Job Centre "Plus".

If you've got your bank card but no money in your account I can do a bank transfer and lend you some cash if that'll help you get home. Thumbs Up

I appreciate the offer, thank you! Very kind of you.

Unfortunately no bank card, I'm gonna risk it. If I see any sailors I'll be sure to stop off though, aerial.

Good luck to me Thumbs Up Smile

You can make it! Or perhaps even get lucky with someone giving you some if you end up pushing!

That happened to me once, some road working gave me some high saved me 2 miles out of the 3. On my way back I saw them 1 mile down the road and did give him 20 quid for his kind will.[/url]

Im sure my gpz did an average of 60mpg and that had no fairing and i rode it like a cunt.
I read a article in a mag recently and they did a load of tests on saving fuel and crouching down (racing position) saved the most fuel, i cant remember how much but it was around 40-50% i think.

I remember lying the Z on the ground so the dregs of fuel would run over the spine to the side of the tank where the tap was, used to get an extra 6 miles doing that

Just don't wring its neck and keep things smooth, my sv did an average of 62mpg, once got it into the 70's without holding anyone up and that had 150 more cc's to feed than your GPZ Thumbs Up

Unless it's a Shell garage in which case you have to call someone who can pay or they call the police.

I wonder if he made it back.
I know I can't do that mileage on my bike, which is slower and lighter. I offered because i'm close enough to help him out whether he's on my bypass or 5 miles from his door, I would hate to be pushing my bike any distance on a cold dark night in winter and cursing it all the way. Karma
