I'm going to pick up a bike 2moro hopefully!! ( If its ok)

I've gotta say i'm pretty exited about it,

Its a cg125 and i know its not the most exiting machine but its gonna save me loads of commute time to and from work....

Its a 200 model (swuare headlight) with kick start only, got it for £450 and its only done 8k (freind of my Dad's)....

I'll post picks 2moro if i purchase it, what sort of thing do i look out for when looking at a bike?? I.e tyres engine etc...

Thanks and rapid replys please, sure it will be ok buying from a family friend but i can be over cautious..

Hi

Wheel bearings (grip wheel and try and wobble it, feel for a click / click as you do so). Steering head bearings (get someone to push down on the back with the bike on the centre stand, kneel in front of the bike, grip the forks and try and wobble them backwards and forwards and feel for any play - also turn the bars and feel for any notchiness).Tyres (should be 1mm of tread on the central 75% to be legal, but really you want more). Brake pads / shoes / disks (disks and pads are easy to see and check, shoes on a drum brake harder). Condition of any cables (especially the brake cable is it has drum brakes). Fork seals and forks (check for any signs of oil leaking on the forks, and check for any spots of rust on the chromed part of the forks - between the yokes isn't a major worry but further down they will wreck the seals rapidly). Also check for leaks on the rear shocks. Check the wheels are not buckled (support the bike with a wheel in the air and spin the wheel while holding something JUST off the wheel rim which should make any buckle more obvious).

Check all the lights. Including that both the front brake and the rear brake operate the brake light.

Check the conditon of the chain and sprockets. Difficult to explain what to look for here, but a quick google should provide you with pics.

Check for any service history / claims of servicing. That said the old pushrod CG engine is pretty tough.

Less important, but check for any splits in the seat (water gets in, sits in the foam and if the seat base is metal causes rust). Check there are keys for all the locks (possibly ignition, a separate steering lock on the bottom yoke, helmet lock, seat lock and petrol cap lock).

Those are the main things on a simple commuter bike.

All the best

Keith

Sometimes buying and dealing with people that you know (or know of) can be worse than buying off complete strangers.

Be cautious and check it over thoroughly. £400 might not seem like a lot of money but it is to some people.
