Buy bike specific if you love your R6.

I wouldn't be chucking decent car oil in a bike... I use cheap oil in the bike if its desperate.

Pretty sure Opie Oils have a decent deal on bike oils anyway.

Go to Opie oils, bike section, get 4 litres of the semi/full synth stuff and a filter.

Doesn;t matter what type, motul, silkolene, castrol... just anything thats your type 10w40 or whatever is in your manual.

See, so many different opinions :l it's hard enough for me to decide what underwear to wear, nevermind what oil to put in my pride and joy!

Someone agree with someone else so I can go off the second opinion!

Also am I to change the sump plug gasket?

Usually I would, considering its a nice bike I'd go the whole mile for it.

My take on this whole oil thing is this:

Make sure the oil is the right viscosity i.e. 10w/40 5w/30 etc and meets the right API and ACEA specifications and avoid oils with friction modifiers such as Magnatec.

Changing it more often is better than buying a fancy fully synth and changing it less often. For the price of a filter and sump plug washer change them as well.

I usually go for the Halfords motorbike oil at around £20 for 5L.

Halfords sell the washers, as do places like Wemoto etc. If you're planning on keeping the bike for a while I'd buy a few filters and washers at the same time and keep a stock of oil.

I was told the same thing - get the right grade & change it often. An engine will thank you more with cheap oil changed regularly than some prat putting in the best money can buy every 10k miles.

I use Hein Gericke semi-synth (£23 for 4 litres) in my road bikes as you get a free oil filter.

But my KTM enduro specifically says to use fully-synth.The stuff from HG has been perfectly suitable for the last few races so I will continue to use it.
