Greetings.

Just bought a WN3000RP to provide better WiFi coverage at the back of the house. The router is a Sky branded Netgear DG934G which we've had no problems with. Setup was straightforward, so we've now got two networks broadcasting - SSID and SSID_EXT.

When using both networks at the same time (i.e. a device connected to and using SSID and another device connected to and using SSID_EXT) the router freezes and needs to be rebooted. If we only use one of the available networks (SSID or SSID_EXT, doesn't matter which) the connection is stable.

I've moved the channel number away from neighbour's networks, am using WPA-PSK, and even tried giving the WN3000RP a static IP address. Doesn't matter what device - laptop with Windows 7, laptop with Vista, iPad 2, iPhone 4S. About 30 seconds after a device starts using the other network, the router freezes.

Any clues?

I've posted the query on the Netgear forums, but am waiting for a moderator to approve it Rolling Eyes

As always try checking for new firmware for them both. I've had plenty of netgear issues in the past where they drop connection or crash. Are both operating on the same channel?

Linky
Sky doesn't like it, something to do with the way that the router is used by the Sky box.
It should be doable, in that I can't think of any logical reason why it'd conflict, but when you're dealing with boxes that have locked-down firmware, nothing's certain.
Sorry about that.

Both are on the same channel, the repeater inherits the router's one so cannot be changed. The repeater has the latest firmware, the router is autoupdated by Sky - I've not reflashed it with a generic firmware.

Aye, I'm not expecting much help from Sky. Strange thing is that if I just connect to the extended network, everything works AOK, so the router doesn't mind the extender channelling the traffic. It's just when I have one device using one, and another using the other.

For what it's worth, and I appreciate that it is very little, I did the same with a TP-Link TL-WA701ND connecting to a sky netgear router and it worked fine. Laptop connects to sky, upstairs connects to the tp-link and I also have the TV and Bluray connected through a switch to the netgear.

The PC upstairs initally refused to connect to the extender for some unknown reason, I fixed it by setting the PC to a static IP.

Have you tried with all security turned off?
