Since I've started full time work every time I've been paid I've bought something expensive, first was a £500 TV, second a Nintendo 3DS, and some various other shit that I don't really need.

Now I'm looking at getting an iPad, but thinking do I really need one or do I just want to spend my money.

Anybody else have the same problem?

Just get some willpower, or move all the money you don't need to live for the month into another account so you can't be tempted.

I did but now I don't look on shops where there will be stuff i'm tempted to buy.

Think before buying, do you really NEED it?

keep the cash. One day you will need it.

New bike, deposit for a house etc. The new stuff is nice but i've got a house and couple of sheds full of stuff that is never used and i've blown cash on that could well have been used on more worthwhile things other than a quick fix

Im the same.
My two main accounts are Halifax & Natwest - I can transfer any amount over, and spend withing 15 mins.
I opened up Santandar savings account few months back, Knowing if I needed to move cash over Id need a code sent to my mobile - which I didnt give -
You could, by all means pop into the bank - But I rearly shop in town, so the money isnt avalible to swap over.
Its worked out well so far Thumbs Up

This is kind-of the opposite of impulse-buying.

Only with my very first pay packet after 6years of education. But it was only really one thing, and something I had promised myself I would get with that very first pay.

But after that I started saving.

I only ever get what I need, rather than what I want...because realistically I don't really want for that much. I'd rather have very little tat and crap. I don't get all the materialistic tendencies of others, I place value on experiences, exploring and travel. And on occasion I think 'sod it' and buy something I want for want's sake...and thoroughly enjoy it (because I don't do it so often). Thumbs Up

I only impulse buy reduced food... and exotic types of meat.

I have wild boar in my freezer now Very Happy It was crocodile the week before. And spleen before that.

It keeps me happy. But spending big lumps of money on things... fuck no. It actually hurts me.

As said, willpower, and avoiding websites/shops when you have money 'to burn'.

I was thinking about this yesterday, when I cleared out most of the half price stuff from Tescos... Just how rich will I have to get before I stop buying 'special yellow label' products.... I reckon it would have to be a 6 figure salary....

Unless I get shacked up with someone, then I may get ground down by incessant nagging. Bah. Girl I'm involved with now thinks I'm really tight, but it's her 'fuck it, you can always earn more money' spending that drives me nuts.

Blurgh, I shall be a hermit one day.

(18 quid payg phone 2 years ago, 250 quid notebook pc 2 years ago, 2 year old refurbished camera from ebay, second-hand ipod bought 2 years ago... economy bus rides everywhere, shitty old borrowed motorcycle... money should be saved for drugs Laughing)

I'm the opposite: I've been thinking of which dining table to get for the past four years now. The past year I've actually known which one to get but haven't got round to buying it. Rolling Eyes

Most things I buy are impulse purchases. Might get a week of humming and hawing if it's expensive enough, but usually I'm pretty rash. Last four motorbikes and my car all came down to less than an hour of thinking. Laughing

An iPad really?

Might aswell give your money to me. It'll do alot more good.

If you're thinking of getting something, at least research what it's capable of. Which in your case, fcuk all. The iPad is sh!t and a waste of money, as are most tablets.

I really can't be bothered ranting about how pointless tablets are again.

But yeah, get some willpower.

Or I read recently. Freeze your card. Literally. Glass of water. Freeze in there, by the time you've gotten home and thawed it out you will have thought over your proposed purchase with more time than it takes to take it straight to the till.

Amen. My daughter wanted an iPad for xmas until I explained how and why they're shite and are bought by people who have been gulled by the whole brand-marketing BS. She got a Kindle instead (and my wallet gave me a high-five).

Although if you're dumb enough to not only have a credit card, but lack the intelligence to realise it's not 'free money', this may slow you down more than the 5 minutes it would me.

An impulse buy for me is something that I have never seen before or considered buying, perhaps an antique or a unusual tool. It doesn't always have to be something useful, but it needs to be quite special.

I suppose purchasing one will give you a little buzz for twenty minutes. If something in my head told me to impulse buy an Ipad I would tell it to shut up and watch less telly! You already know what an Ipad is so its hardly an impulse, you're being mind fucked by apple Razz

The freezing-it thing worked for me when I was in some proper schtick about 10 years ago.

Nowadays its too easy to just remember your 16-digit number and 3-digit back code, and buy online Laughing

Luckily, though, I've re-acquired some willpower.

Tempting, though. My Christmas bonus was pegged for paying off some old traffic fines from last year, but I am unbelievably tempted to blow it on something frivolous.

Did someone mention ipad.....I need that in my life real bad.

I dig the whole status thing. Not really me that. But the music software...mindblowing and very cheap....Then i quickly slap myself across the face..look at the equipment i have and feel spoilt. Then go searching for ipad reviews. Doh!

I put a grand into savings in the end, I read bad reviews in order to put myself off the idea, which it did.

Plus my parents gave me the speach about saving for better things in life, which is true to be fair to them!
