My dad got me the mentioned book for christmas, and blimey! I thought i new stuff, but even though it's basics it really highlights how patched knowledge i had.
It covers all the sections of the motorcycle - beginning with absolute basics and gradually getting into more detail.
Since Xmas I've got half way through it and I've surely tripled/quadrupled the knowledge i had beforehand!
If anyone wants to get a clearer understanding of all the parts that make a bike up, or has no idea and wants to know, I can't recommend this enough.
And its only £18.99 from amazon i think Very Happy
theres also the Electrics techbook which expands on the info in the basics book, and the fuel systems techbook, which does the same thing.
theres also the workshop practice techbook too, to add a touch of DIY help to it rather than just theory.
I honestly cannot emphasise enough how good these books are.

Can't recommend it enough mate Smile.
I think the only criticism is that if you have NO idea on something, then some of the diagrams are hard to put into real life perspective. but a google images quickly solves that Wink
and a couple of typo's but its only the odd singular word made plural with an S but that's all Very Happy

Started reading it last night. I only got through the first couple of pages, but i already learnt quite a bit.
The best thing is that it assumes you know nothing at all about the topics and starts off at the basics. It doesnt seem to throw too much information at you at one time either.

That's what i liked about it, i did have some background knowledge beforehand, but i read it all anyway and it really filled in all the gaps, even some of the 'this is a motorbike' parts Wink
Mind you, i did get a bit confused when i got to the ignition systems, i had NO clue on electrics, and after a little research and chats with my dad i managed to understand it and electrics generally - might be a bit of a heads up for when you get to it Smile

No need to buy the Haynes Manual.

Read one of Teflon Mike's posts..

Laughing

Haynes get the shit kicked out them on here but The books are well worth the money for most of the jobs.

I maybe can fault the illustration but for budget reasons pics must be kept small.

OEM manuals normally cost £100+

The info in it is still RIGHT though, they wouldn't just sell incorrect information, but yes i agree that some of the diagrams and illustrations can be a bit hard to understand, but that's why i said sometimes a quick google quickly solves that.
Still be substantial for anyone wanting to understand the basics of it though - I understand it & makes perfect sense to me.

AND assume you are a professional mechanic.

Use Honda tool #253-55665-5565 to remove material decomfibulator and dissemble mass warp drive. Check the runout of the positron granularity detector shaft using Honda tool #225-65588-9743 and apply an Einsteinium based lubricating paste in a 0.04mm x 0.01mm thick line.

Average person reading OEM manual:

I suggest you read a few more Haynes manuals Laughing .

In practice, I like having both, the Haynes for simplifying it and the OEM for telling me where the Haynes has got it wrong.

Luckily in this case i have my dad to correct the mistakes, and show me, should i stumble across any.

As for OEM:

Just ordered this from Amazon. Had to use a gift certificate by March, so two birds with one stone. Thanks for that. Very Happy

I would say you would be fine with it. I dont know too much about bikes and i understood the first chapter fine (its all ive read so far). There where some parts that i had to re-read and look at the diagrams for a fair bit, but its fairly simple.
The diagrams are the best part of the book. They describe perfectly whats going on.

Sometimes you do have to google some bits to get your head round properly, but generally its in lamens terms.
If you have absoloutely NO understanding whatsoever some of the chapters might take a bit of research and a wikipedia perhaps but it's worth it, really is.
