I was looking at a GRXR600 K1 tonight. It was a 2001, 51 plate. 12000 miles. It had a two very small scuffs and what looks like a stone chip on the lower fairing but nothing too serious.
It also comes with a cover, two paddock stands, scorpion can + original. Harris hanger for can (rear pegs removed, pegs supplied), LED brake light. Blue double bubble screen. Crash bungs ( Crap ones that go through fairing ) and a FSH. It has had two owners too.
Oh yeah I would also be getting him to through in a Cat 1 Toad alarm.
That's all I can remember
Anyway, I was just wanting some opinions on what you peeps think I should pay if I were to buy it. I'm seriously thinking of buying it. But it's arse trembling stuff.
The guy was wanting £4200 but I got him down to £4000.
What do you think? ____________________ Past >>>> Honda NSR 125 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K1 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K4 >>>>Kawasaki Z1000 DAF >>>>Suzuki RMZ 250 >>>> Current >>>> KTM Superduke R 1290 >>>> |

Is it a dealer or a private sale? I dont know if GSXR's hold a better price than ZX6R's like mine, but a 2001 zx6 can be had for around £3500-£3800 on a private sale, but you could pay say up to £4200 at a dealer. The bike has a fair few extras, which you should only give any more for if they are things you want. I would say the Alarm is the most desirable extra, is it Datatagged? If the bike is clean and shows no signs of wear or abuse then i would say £4000 might be a fair price. The fact that the previous owners have added lots of extras could mean that they just liked changing things to personalise the bike, or it could mean that its had 2 thrash happy owners. I would personally always try to buy a secondhand bike with a std exhaust, even if i want to add a noisy pipe myself, but thats just my opinion. Check condition of the chain and sprockets, and if the tyres are worn, as these are good bargining points, that you should expect another £200 or so off if they need changing. If possible i would also check the steering with the front wheel off the ground, as any play or notchiness in the steering head bearings could indicate wheelie abuse etc. Make sure you get a reasonable test ride on the bike too before you buy! |

It's a private sale. Also it's for sale quite close to me with counts for a lot as most bikes I have seen for sale which interest me are all 200 plus miles away
It has two new tyres. The exhaust is brand new almost. He has reciept to prove this. he said he is selling due to a back injury.
It is datatagged too and has recently had a service ( 200 miles ago or less ) ____________________ Past >>>> Honda NSR 125 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K1 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K4 >>>>Kawasaki Z1000 DAF >>>>Suzuki RMZ 250 >>>> Current >>>> KTM Superduke R 1290 >>>> |

must pay more attention to my typing.
I think if he gave me it for 4 grand instead of the 4200 quid asking price that would be fair, wouldn't it?
I'm too used to buying from dealers that's my problem ____________________ Past >>>> Honda NSR 125 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K1 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K4 >>>>Kawasaki Z1000 DAF >>>>Suzuki RMZ 250 >>>> Current >>>> KTM Superduke R 1290 >>>> |

Hi
Haggle gim down as far as he will go. Say something stupid lke £3500, then go on from there. I would go there with a price in mind, its not you selling the bike afterall. You miaght say £4k and he was thinking £3.8k, so he'll bite your hand off. Go low, then haggle. Start of high you'll lose .
But that price does sound good though .

Well I was on the phone to him today. iI kept pushing him but he wasn't going lower than 4 grand. As he is giving up biking he is giving me a lot of stuff with the bike like the paddock stands, cover etc.
Clearly he wants to get rid of the bike quickly. But also I want to buy a bike quickly. It's the first one I've seen for sale anywhere near me at that price.
He said he would throw in an almost new helmet. Before you all say - Don't wear it, you don't know if it's been dropped... , I know. He said he had only worn it 6 or 7 times. I should be able to tell if this is the case. Anyway I only want it as a spare in case I have a pillion out on the bike.
I had the HPI check done and it checked out fine.
I also looked at any other ads I could see and while I don't think it's the best deal ever, it doesn't seem that bad. Like I say, I don't have much too choose from up here
So I'm thinking I might go for it. ____________________ Past >>>> Honda NSR 125 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K1 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K4 >>>>Kawasaki Z1000 DAF >>>>Suzuki RMZ 250 >>>> Current >>>> KTM Superduke R 1290 >>>> |

Just looked up the CAP guide for you.
GSX-R600 K1 2001 51 plate 10000 miles
CAP Retail - i.e showroom - £4225
CAP Clean - i.e good cond private - £3575 (exceptional cond, mech sound, std colours, free of dents and scratches, 1mm+ tyres All docs available)
CAP Average - £3300
Check that the Toad alarm is CAT1 for bikes - could be for cars only I think.
The alarm should be no more than £270 see www.insurancesecurity.co.uk/cart
So £3400 + £270 + whatever you want to pay fro paddock stands sounds a good deal to me! ____________________ Stressed as usual! Cheap Sports Bike Insurance https://www.accessquotes.co.uk/BikeQuote.aspx?referer=007 |

I don't know much about this CAP guide as I've never seen it. Those prices, based on the bike being average for the year seem pretty low. I have certainly never personally seen a bike of this age advertised much lower if at all than 4 grand. ____________________ Past >>>> Honda NSR 125 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K1 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K4 >>>>Kawasaki Z1000 DAF >>>>Suzuki RMZ 250 >>>> Current >>>> KTM Superduke R 1290 >>>> |

I had a wee look there. There is only one which is less than 200 miles from me. It's 3800 and looks a good deal but it's still 150 miles away. At least four hours round trip for me. I think I have to pay the price for the lack of bikes up here.
To be honest, I'm not going to not buy a bike for the sake of a couple of hundred quid. The convenience of buying a bike in Glasgow is a big plus for me.
