Hi,

Been looking at getting a textile jacket. I like the look of the Spada Dyno, but there is an RST Paragon ll jacket I can get on offer at the same price. It seems a bit higher spec, has a back protector and is usually £50 more.

Anyone any experience of these jackets, or who would make the better kit ?

Thanks !
Mark

A textile jacket is a textile jacket - there isn't really much difference in them. Try them both on if possible and see what one fits better (if any), failing that, go for the one with back protection - if you can get it for the same price, why not?

If you do happen to prefer the Spada one without back protection, i'm sure you can get a back-pad for not too much, and most jackets have armour pockets inside anyway.

Thumbs UpSmile

I was going to get the Paragon jacket a few months ago but went with the RST Razor textile jacket instead. The Paragon looks a lot better worn than any pictures on the internet. That's pretty much all I know about them, what they look like Embarassed

Would you buy any other clothing without first trying it on? A pair of jeans, a jacket or a coat?

Just because it's for the bike, it's no different. First it has to fit properly, then it has to have protection in the right places.

But first and foremost it has to be comfortable otherwise you wont wear it. E-bay is full of stuff too uncomfortable to wear, buy what you like and what you'll wear Wink

I'm not. But if both fit well, I was after people opinions on the jackets or their manufacturers to see which would be the better buy.

I'm not happy with Spada stuff at the moment, the quality of the zips are bringing the overall quality of the product down.

just my 2 pence worth

It's the same story with RST though. I have heard of many of their zips bursting in both by crashing and general use.

I have also experienced my rst zip breaking during a crash.

i have the paragon II jacket and im not happy with it at all.

I normally buy rst stuff as usually its pretty good quality for the price but just about every seam on this jacket has split open, especially on the arms, so if it rains all the water gets straight through.
The first seam split after about 1 week of use and i managed to glue it back together with superglue, but then another one went and i just gave up and carried on wearing it, i still wear it daily now just because im stubborn and want to get a bit of use out of it but im pretty sure it's going to fall in half soon Laughing

It mignt just be a faulty batch so i suppose you shouldnt write it off completely but I definately wont be buying another

Rst Paragon, absolute rubbish, zip's failed stiching failed on pockets, returned to dealer that it came from, and to be fair they replaced it FOC, whilst still under warranty.
However, the replacement failed in the same way, but know one wants to know, (in less than 12 months), so thats the last rst products I will be buying

You get what you pay for.
I wear hein gericke on the road and A* on the track.
I spent ages looking for race leathers and nothing matches the quality of the higher end gear. Although i dont rate dainese, its over priced designer gear imo.
Arlen ness isnt to bad for lower end gear i just didnt like the look of the suits i tried on.
Richa and rst is cheap, poorly fitting rubbish

If you live near leicester go here https://www.mcaleicester.co.uk/
This guy has 100's of leather suits and has been selling them for his whole life, he'll have you kitted out in the best suit for you and do you a cracking deal on it too.
I got a Alpinestar gp pro suit for £600 with a free under suit.

I wear my HG pro shell suit everyday for the last 2 years and its never let me down. I also got over £200 off that as well during one of there sales.

If you're serious about biking then get good gear.
Buy cheap buy twice etc...

i see what your saying, but not everyone can afford to shell out that kind of money on gear, we just have to try and get the best with what little money we have Laughing

Spada's alright. I bought my first jacket when I did my CBT, and it's lasted for 3 years or so.

If i was fashion conscious i wouldn't be riding a 10 year old bike with dirty cracked fairings.

If you actually went out and spent some time comparing the gear you'd see that it isnt just the label.
A* spend more on r and d than all these smaller companys make a year and supply most of the worlds top riders.

I used to feel the same as you and i actually went out to buy a £300 rst suit, but after trying some on and then trying some A* gear on the difference is night and day.
My suit fits me like a 2nd skin and its made of a single piece of high quality hide.
The rst suit was made of several small panels sewn together and thin dry leather. It also flapped around like an old mans sack.

I nearly didnt get it just because i dont like the A* label but i couldnt ignore the quality of the suit.

Im sure a cheaper suit would be fine if you fall off at some traffic lights or get smidsy'd on a roundabout but I wouldn't want to be wearing one while sliding down the track at 130mph.

All that said the OP was asking about textiles so its a moot point.
I would recommend the hein gericke gortex gear and wash it with nikwax.
My gear is still waterproof 2 years on and still feels like new.

Basically, yeah. Laughing

My only experience of A* is their textiles tbh, which left me very unimpressed with them.

Horses for courses though. People experience and needs will always differ. Smile

Hi all,

I'll not be doing 130 anywhere I don't think.

I've just passed my test and got myself a Derbi Terra 125 for scooting about on.

I've got about £350 to spend on a jacket, trousers and helmet.

I've read other reviews about RST and the seams etc. I think I'll try out the Spada stuff if it fits well.

Thanks for the info !

Cheers,
Mark

i think the seams just go on the textile stuff for some reason, i also have a 2 piece leather suit by RST which i use when its not raining and thats doing extremely well after 3 years. If i had to pick fault, the velcro is getting a bit weak round the cuffs but thats to be expected with daily(ish) use

Cheers,
Mark

I have ALWAYS had spada stuff as for the price you cant beat the quality. However i had to return my spada boots friday because after six months the zip broke. Previously to this the gore tex area at the front had started to fall apart after about a month and the rubber gear lever protection area failed at about the same time to.

I bought the RST Vantilator II jacket and trousers, then went to Germany in the kit last year and had 5 days of rain. I stayed dry with the waterproof inner lining and the jacket hasn't failed. The zip does occasionally catch the inner lining though and jams which can be a pain. It comes with a waterproof and thermal lining which can be removed as well as a back protector.

I'm used to Dainese (a GoreTex jacket lasted 5 years and refused to wear out!) and A* kit which I used to wear but pretty much stick with the RST V II for normal use now. For the price I can't complain.

I had a look at the Paragon jacket at the bike show but the location of the zips made it look prone to leakage. I generally find that any zips on the front will let water in unless they're correctly sealed or there's an overlapping flap behind.
