Hi, first of all, due to the bloody wind my bike was knocked over by a bin I am in need of a new clutch lever; are they universal or bike/make specific?
Secondly, looking out for a some leather trousers but bit unsure as to what size to get, in usual jeans im 36'' but my textiles at the minute are 38'' so that i can fit normal pants underneath (quicker than changing at work), they are however a little loose, even with pants/shorts underneath, should i risk it and go for a 36'' or go for a 38''? Is leather generally tighter?
Should add im planning to lose weight so a smaller pair i squeeze into might be an added incentive.
One last thing, would a jacket of a different make zip up with trousers of another?
thanks, Grant

Yes. Mine do anyway.

As for the trousers, theres no way to tell until you try them out. 36" may well mean a 36" waist, but fit will different. So you're gonna have to go try them on.

WEmoto.co.uk will have replacement levers for a fraction of the OEM price.
I got one for my SV: front brake lever cost £50 from suzuki, £15 from wemoto, and the lever actually turned out to be better!
trousers - might be worth getting a size up, also the leather will stretch in as you wear it, it will be tight to start with

Some jackets/trousers form different brands will fit together and some jackets/trousers from the same manufacturer fit together.
There is no fixed standard. (Because the folk who make them are a shower of cnuts.)
Different fits for the jackets may mean the zips are not the correct length.

As said you need to go try before you buy.

The size on the label on motorcycle leathers bears absolutely no relationship to the actual size.

You HAVE to try them on or I can garauntee they wont fit. If the ones you're currently wearing have a label that matches the actual size, it is just random chance. Put enough random labels on enough leathers, eventually one of them will be correct.

Clutch lever = generally bike model specific to one or two models.

Leather sizes are a lie. Even two pairs with the same label can fit differently. I tried on two "identical" pairs of Arlen Ness leather jeans, one fit, one was too tight.

SOME brands will match various other brands. Arlen Ness and Weise have the same zip but the wrong way round, Spada can sometimes zip into Weise etc etc etc. Need to go and have a look. Wear your jacket down and try and zip the trousers in, sometimes there is a universal zip about 8 inches long at the back, this is quite commonly shared between various brands but is also pretty useless. They normally provide the other half of the zip with new gear, you can then sew this into your jeans etc and they will zip together. I sewed a zip into some Hood jeans, zips into my leather jacket now.

Only thing you can do is try it all on.
