Evening all. I'm considering buying a 1998 CBR 600F with around 30,000 on the clock. The bike is mint but hasn't been started for about 12 months. I'm wondering whether to avoid buying or whether with a full service it would be ok?? Any thoughts .....

12 months isn't that long, most summer riders will park up and forget about it for 4/5 months every year with no real ill effects. If it was me, I'd charge the battery and see if it starts, if so then a quick oil and filter change and some fresh fuel and chances are it will be fine, factor any hassle into the price.

Assuming that as it is mint that it has been garaged most rust should have been avoided. On top of your normal checks also check that the inside of the fuel tank isn't rusty and/or leaking.

A full check over, take a look on the interweb for some buyers guides' for bike specific things to look for.
other than that just the usual checks: Fork seals, Brake discs, rust, the normal drill
Make sure it starts and runs okay if the seller is okay with that, just in case there is any issues with it.

As said, charge battery, swap fluids, and it should be pretty much good to go.
Checking the obvious things like hoses and seals won't do any harm either.

A year is nothing. Try a bike that's been left for two decades Laughing

Nah mate, nah, don't touch it with a barge pole, more trouble than it's worth.

.. By the way, where is this bike and how much is the owner asking? Is the price negotiable? And would you happen to have his phone number by any chance? Pound Coin Pound Coin Pound Coin
