Dear BCF,

For a while now I have been meaning to replace my old £45 Takai helmet I bought from Hein Gericke in Jan. It's served it's time and needs to be replaced.

For a long time I have been looking at the Caberg Konda, but a thread from this site has slightly edged me away from it (fogging issues).

I was wondering if any of you guys could recommend a helmet that is a flip up, not too much wind noise, black (gloss preferred) and a max cost of around £110.

Thanks Cool

I've just bought a Duchinni D619bt flip-front with built-in bluetooth from J and S for £150. Seems alright - not the quietest lid in Christendom, but gadgety, which is a plus. I think you might struggle to get a quality flip-up for £110. £150 is about as cheap as I'd like to go on a helmet, to be honest.
I usually take a large, and this in large feels a little too big, but with the medium, the chin-guard was right up against my teeth.
Details here: https://www.jsaccessories.co.uk/shop/helmets/open-face-flip-up/duchinni-d619bt-helmet-in-with-bluetooth-silver.html

That helmet doesn't look too bad actually. I'll look into that! Ta

Wind noise depends a lot on your bike, as much as the helmet.

My Nolan goes from quiet when stood on pegs or down under screen to noisy while sat in std position. Due totally to the way the screen deflects the air.

Also look at V-can which again have bluetooth built in.
Personally had one and it was pretty good.

Above all FIT is what matters.

Eggsachery.

I fitted a taller screen to my R1200GS. On motorways it was possible to hunker down under the 'jet-stream' and more or less cancel all wind noise. But it is unsustainable to sit like a spaz for more than a minute or two.
My K1300GT has a factory fitted longer electronically adjustable screen 2" longer than standard. I still have to crouch to find the sweet spot. Electronic screen is worthless really.
I could fit a little thing to the top of the screen to trim/tune the air flow but those things look decidedly ghey indeed.

The S1000RR has a bit of perpex to keep flies off the back of the speedo it affords nada wind protection hence I always wear ear plugs on the beast. (And it almost blows my heid off if I sit up just before a bend sometimes.) Embarassed

My replacement screen has one of these Ghey things. Embarassed

Spends all its life in the lowest position as any other position, makes things worse. Laughing

Thread HyJack: I looked at Tobinators for the GS but could never get my head around the 'breaking the vacuum' theory to reduce wind noise/turbulence.
Not a cheap thing to find it out after the fact that they don't work either.

Most wind effect I get causes my head to buzz from aerodynamics. My Shoei lid didn't suffer as much from this probably due to the spoiler.
