I failed for not spotting a national speed limit sign and going to slow. It was only a short link road and there were no other speed signs. I knew I was doing the wrong speed but had nothing to go by as the speed limit is different for any road really so just stuck to the previous speed and some cars overtook so I basically obstructed the traffic hence the fail. I wouldve passed otherwise.

I was a bit apprehensive in the first place as I was on a different bike that didn't feel right. Felt like the steering wanted to drop round the corners so I kept feeling the the bike was going to turn too much so on the first bend (still in the test centre ) I overcompensated and ran a bit wide.

I knew every time I did something wrong and tried to laugh it off as they were mainly stupid mistakes. I missed the speed because I was taking the first turn on a roundabout, looked right for the traffic then leant round the bend and the speed limit was above my head and I was looking down the road so didn't see it on the other side either. I realised when other cars were accelerating away but had no idea what to go by. The a13 round here was 40mph before and had 3 lanes. Its recently gone up to 50. The a127 is 2 lanes and is 70mph. I didn't know what it would be and I knew it was only a link road so was unsure if I should go above 50.

Need to wait 2 weeks for a retest but don't know what the weather will be like then. I might book it but be ready to change the date if the weather looks pants. Don't want to leave it though as I want it done by the end of feb.
Thumbs Down

It looks as if the main part of your riding is fine though so just a simple error to correct.....you'll nail it next time! Thumbs Up

Yeah just a stupid mistake missing the sign then trying to make the best of it. Maybe if in doubt of the speed limit I should try to impress the instructor with some sort of wheelie Laughing

Sorry to hear that... but you'll never forget what that speed limit is again Wink

Learn from it - you seem confident enough otherwise - you'll get it next time Thumbs Up

A NSL sign on a single carriageway is 60. I know you know this but I'm just sayin!

If you just do the 60mph in a 70mph or 50 mph in a 60mph an examiner shouldn't penalise you and if he does then he is an arse.

Was it a single or a dual carriageway and what speed did you go?

BTW, 60 mph or maybe a lil bit more on some (very narrow) Single carriageways is like sex with your clothes on Laughing

Good luck for next time mate. You will knock it out the park Wink

Depends what bike you are on re speed tbh.

Bit of leeway for a 125, after all it might take a long (relatively speaking) time to reach 60 and may never reach 70 Smile

For DAS however if you only reach 50 on a national single carriageway or 60 on a dual, if safe to do so, the examiner may conclude that you don't know what
https://www.dft.gov.uk/trafficsignsimages/images/SignImages/128x128/671.jpg
means!

Also, missing a speed limit change indicates a problem with observation, even more so after you have passed your test Wink

Blitz it next time mate Very Happy

Unlucky, just ride as you did today, but the route maybe different for next time, make sure you keep an eye out for signs, its so easy to miss one.

I'm sure you will nail it like everyone says but... a bit of an arse if your ride is safe, and to be honest very subjective of the examiner to say it wasn't. I would have thrown me toys out of the pram on that decision.
I don't have the full bike license and have been held up by small bikes in a car before, my choice to overtake doesn't make their driving bad?
Whats done is done, move on I guess! but as a matter of interest in ye-olde days the instructor was not obliged to tell you why you failed, is that still the case?

I would have thought the idea of the theory test was to 'test' your understanding of the road signs/highway code. Your interpretation of risk is also tested at that point, how come riding too slow can constitute a fail, you have already passed the hazard analysis bit?

Edit: Why the F**k does it depend on what bike you are riding? Passing the test means safe to ride a bike, doesn't matter if it is a big or small bike, fast or slow. Makes me f**kin angry, sorry for the rant!
Edit 2: The speed limit is not a target... ffs, starting to calm down now :_)

the reason i missed the sign was because i was taking the first left on the roundabout. i slowed down while the car on the round about left, went round the bend and the sign was above my head. there was no other smaller speed limit signs on the road.

to be honest i didnt feel too comfortable on the bike anyway. the steering was shit so i felt like it wanted to steer itself around every bend so was concious of that.

also the sun was in my eyes or something Wink

I had one like this is the other day in my driving lesson. Coming off a (big+busy) round about and I was checking my mirrors+blind spot before coming off, as you should, and I missed the small "30" signs which were sitting at the exit. So I carried on at "40" (the previous speed limit) because I didn't know otherwise.

It's kind of annoying really. Personally I think it is quite easy to miss a speed limit sign at roundabouts etc because of doing other things, then when they're not repeated how do you know you're doing anything wrong?

Never mind though. You've had your practise run, now, go pass it Wink

Its the opposite here, because the of the 45mph restriction for all L drivers and R drivers (first year after passing) you have to make sure you stick to 45 and no more in NSL lmao Laughing

Even the most experienced rider or driver can miss a sign! If that's all you failed on pah - you will nail it next time! Just put it down to experience
