This is unrelated to anything Im doing its just something I need to ask due to work related things.

My question is, with your CBT when you take it at 16 you can ride up to 50cc and a moped is defined as something not exceding 50cc.

At 17 though you can ride up to 125cc.

So what exactly is your cbt license at 17? is it the A1?.

Im 18 but if I was only 17 could I get JUST my cbt and ride a 10cc motorbike?

Thanks

As a new rider, CBT merely validates your provisional entitlement. At 16, this entitlement is restricted to 50cc, at 17 this increases to 125cc.

The only time a CBT validates a full entitlement is if you've got a full car licence, when it allow you to ride 'peds without L plates.

You could get your CBT and just ride a 10cc, but you'd have to do it on l-plates (and retake in 2 years).

CBT is a certificate to say you have done your first lesson, and 'validates' your provisional entitlement to ride a 124, 14bhp bike unsupervised on L's to 'practice' for full licence tests.

A1 is a FULL licence you get for taking the motorbike tests.
Awarded if the bike you test on is less than 120cc or not on DSA approved 'standard bike' list; and lets you ride no more than a 14bhp 125, just without learner restrictions like L-Plates, no motorways or pillions.
