Hi

I've got a MTX200 engine that needs to be rebuilt.

Is there anyone who still has got parts for the MTX 200 left? I'm particularly interested in engine parts (whole engine, cylinder,...).

By the way does the bike have any restrictions? I've already rebuilt a MTX200, but couldn't find any restriction. Maybe there is one in the exhaust system?

Does a DEP silencer increase the bike's performance?

These people https://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/MTX200RWD-1983/ still do spares.

You may well be able to order parts direct from a main Honda dealer like Fowlers of Bristol.I managed to buy some pretty obscure parts from Fowlers for my 1978 Honda CB125T2.

This site https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-mtx200rw-1983-england_model19510/partslist/ also show all of the part numbers which are relevant in the UK.

As far as I remember while reading a road test of this bike, there was no power restriction. But if you were to change the exhaust then you may well need to change the jetting as well.

Hi

Can't think of a reason why an MTX200 would be restricted.

MTX125 was for the UK market (and pretty much only the UK) due to the 9kW / 12hp learner limit that applied to Great Britain at the time (didn't apply in Northern Ireland, but they still got lumbered with restricted Honda 125s).

All the best

Keith

I know DavidSilverSpares. Bought a new oil pump for 50 pounds last year.

If there is anyone who still has parts please drop me a PM.

slightly off topic sorry!

Keith, do you know of anyone who has ever converted an MBX to a 200, using the MTX200 engine? I've heard it mentioned before, but have never seen one myself or know of anyone who did this conversion to an MBX back in the day?

Hi

I know it was done occasionally (I thought about doing it), but don't know anyone who did do it. Suspect the biggest problem would be getting an exhaust to work.

There are a few odd differences between the MBX and MTX. Think the charging system is a bit different, and for some strange reason one of the cooling pipes is metal on the MBX and rubber on the MTX.

Not many MBX125s around these days, and most of those that are now seem to be rather nice restored ones (I gave a few bits I still had floating around to a guy and his son who were restoring one).

All the best

Keith

Just one more question:

Does anyone know if it is possible to use a piston from another motorcycle (like RD 350, RM 250,...)? Genuine MTX 200 pistons seem to be quite rare.

I'm looking for a 0.5 OS piston (67.5mm).

You have to really blame bloody Lambretta tuner's for that, as i think that's where most of the spares stock of MTX200 pistons went TBH!

If you can't get hold of an MTX 200 pistons now, you may be able to use a Wiseco piston. A Wiseco .060 Yamaha Blaster piston is 67.5mm.

Its a last resort as the compression height will likely be different, so will probably need additional machining to work correctly. I've got a .040 Blaster piston for a KMX 200 which i'm rebuilding.

Typical. You search for hours then 2 come along Surprised

As for spares, I wish you the best of luck. Kmx200 spares are getting like rockin horse shit, Mtx200 spares are like dog eggs.

Could anyone tell me which clutch springs will fit the MTX 200 RWD?

I've orederd some LUCAS called MEF109-6. After I installed them the clutch didn't work at all. So I put the original ones back in and the clutch worked well again.

Thanks

Can't you take the good springs to a Honda dealer and just ask for some of the same?

Going to the Honda dealer would be my last option as the delivery time is quite long.

There are about 5 different types of clutch springs on the Internet (RWD and RWF):

EBC:

CSK004
CSK009
CSK106

TRW/Lucas:

MEF109-6
MEF104-4
