the power Valve basically open and closes over the exhaust port, to control the pulse waves so that you get more power at lower revs when the valve is closed, but at high revs the vavle opens up to allow the bike to run normaly, they are ushally a semi-circle gate with a solenoid or a servo on the other end to open and close the valve, if memory serves me right |

Hi
A power valve changes how the exhaust side of a 2 stroke engine works depending on revs.
The most common type effectively varies the height of the exhaust port. This way the exhaust port opens earlier when the valve is open (ie, at high revs).
Another type are those where a chamber opens in the exhaust port, increasing exhaust port volume at low revs which should increase low down power.
The old Gilera system worked in both ways.
These valves are operated in various different ways. Commonly either using a servo motor, some just use a solonoid. Some work off the clutch and are operated by centrfugal force when the revs get high enough. Early Aprilia systems worked by using exhaust gas pressure.
All the best

I'm sorry but I'm going to have to laugh at hush for voting Deans post as helpful. Funny maybe, but helpful.
Anyone got a link to these power bands on Demon Tweaks? ____________________ The BCF's very own Party boy! Though he's getting old and feeling it!

Hehe powerbands. I knew this guy once, sort of a friend of a friend, who apparently had a moped that he 'tuned up'. He supposedly put a coke can on the carburettor so that when it filled up with petrol it gave him a boost. He also said that he had 'loads' of powerband leads on it. This has been a joke within my circle of friends for years now and whenever someone asks us about one of our bikes, we point out the powerband leads. ____________________ Current bike: VTR1000F Firestorm. Hex - No point in getting worked up, after all, its good to be able to laugh at yourself... (but I'll be getting my own back later )
Had all the regular DIY ones, but never heard of Power Bands. I did have a new guy start at a computer store I was managing, and as a joke we sent him to Dixons to price check a top of the range graphics card to put in - a laptop (told him to ask for one for the PCMCIA slot), which of course didn't (and still doesn't) exist. Anyhow he came back about 20 mins later and said, "They couldn't give me a price as they didn't have one in stock... But the guy said they'll have a couple in on Thursday."
We weren't sure whether to laugh at the lad for his naive nature, or the Dixon's guy for his obvious stupidity.
Now, to plan my revenge... |

Automatic, simple twist and go jobs.
What makes it funnier (or maybe more concerning) is that the day before I broke two ribs coming off one. ____________________ The BCF's very own Party boy! Though he's getting old and feeling it!
