Hi,
I'm planning to buy a zxr4 which the current owner says is restricted (he knows as it doesnt go fast enough!) to 33 bhp. Can someone help me with regards to the legal requirements as to having the certificate, whether the insurance would need a copy and if there is a phone number I could call to get a duplicate!

Cheers

Needa

The owner should have the old certificate.

If he/she does then all you need to do is call up F1 International (or who ever made the restrictor) and arrange to have an 'approved' mechanic check that it is still restricted.

This will of course cost you.

Called FI international, who have told me that they can't search by number plate, only by certificate number. This really sucks, surely the number plate should be listed on a database for easy retrieval?

She said I'll have to trace the bikes history back to when the kit was fitted and then contact the dealer who fitted it (if they still exist). So, 7 years of tracing back to when it was imported for me!

And if that don't work they'll happily sting me for a new kit all over again. LOL

Bear in mind that if all the previous owner had on that it was 33hp restricted was because of the top speed, there's a decent chance it might just be Japanese market restricted. Put simply...

Arrow ZXR400 33hp - Top speed 110ish.
Arrow ZXR400 60hp Jap Restricted - Top speed 112.

See how it could be confused.

Hmmm, yeah. Thanks Maurice. I suppose I'll have to get it Dyno'd first then to see. I know he has put one of those rev booster things on it.

Ah well, I don't know!
