Can anyone tell me how to get this bloody thing off?

It has two screw things holding it on. I tried a screwdriver but it won't stay in place. Is there some sort of special tool needed?

I presume the bike is a Varedero 125?

Usually you need to jam the brake on or somehow prevent the rear wheel from turning.

Or if you have access to an air/electric impact wrench, use that for the main bit.

Got my lovely new sprockets this morning. Back on straight on (five minutes), still cursing at the front one.

I need to turn the two bolts thingys that hold the sprocket on. I know you suggested an impact wrench but I can't see how that will work....

Hi

Normally they are not that tight. Put the bike in gear, put a socket on the bolt, put the ratchet in place and then push down suddenly on the ratchet.

Probably best to put some loctite on the threads of bolts when you replace them (failing that, use nail varnish).

All the best

Keith

They are funny bolts. Imagine the head of a bolt divided into 4 quarters but with two quarters opposite each other missing. I think i will get the bike shop to look at it for me, cos I don't want to bugger it up.

Put the bike in gear and soak the bolts in WD40 for a bit. Clamp tightly with molegrips and beat it with a large hammer repeatedly Laughing failing that use those plumber vice things or a hammer and metal chisel to turn it. I have mastered the art of removing stubborn bolts Razz

They aren't torx bolts - wish they were.

More like one way security bolts, you can do them up but not undo them.....

Well I tried the molegrips but no luck. Just slipped off.

And I don't fancy hitting them with a hammer and chisel cos I am worried about damaging the gearbox shaft.

Bike shop methinks....
