Hi,recently received a call regarding my motorcycle insurance,to which i agreed to renew my policy.

Unfortunately in the conversation i missed a service charge of £25,which then pushes my insurance over what i could get competitively else where. now to cancel this policy they want to charge me a fee of £50.Even though my policy doesn't start until the 7th Feb.

My question is can they do this?
They wouldn't even let me talk to a manager! They even say the 14 day cool off does not apply to the policy only add on's.

Now i know its only £25,but why should i pay that, when they called me?
Any help greatly appreciated

Many Thanks
Steve

LULWUT? Ignorant pricks.

First, name and shame.

Second, write to their complaints department saying that you were mis-sold the policy are being denied your right to cancel.

Remind them that they can only charge the reasonable cost of setting up the policy plus a pro rata amount for the cover that you've already enjoyed, they may not charge a "cancellation fee". Say that if that you don't consider their setting up fee to be reasonable then you'll be happy to refer it to the Financial Ombudsman Service. Job done.

They just gave me a call to run through everything to let me know they are going to do nothing Evil or Very Mad

The call lasted 11 minutes, how can they justify calling me up to rub it in they are doing nothing about it?? i kindly told the advisor they had just completely wasted 11 minutes of my life.

By the way its Swinton bikes.

Thanks
Steve

I'm sure the calling off period applies to finance not sure myself about a one off payment, but considering it hasn't even started their must be so redress with the tw@s. As said before the ombudsman would love to here about it, just keep a record of time, date and who you spoke to and copies of any letters as they have a habit of not getting them and you can register them if you want to make sure Thumbs Up. Best of luck and hope you sort the s###s out. Thumbs Up

Financial Services (Distance Marketing) Regulations 2004, particularly sections 9, 10 and 13 (3) (6) (7) (8).

Read it, cite it, love it. If their complaints department doesn't sort you out, it'll cost them £400 for the Financial Ombudsman Service to investigate it. Want to bet they'll let it get that far?

Don't enter into debate with them, just assert that you weren't informed of the extra £25 charge, and so couldn't have agreed to it.
