Hi all

Iv had a quick look on EBay at the Honda CG125 and it seems a good, cheap bike
Can you recommend any similar bikes/models?

Seems it is possible to pick up a CG125 for £700 or so Smile

Hi

How similar? Assuming you mean commuter style bikes.

Hondas CG125 is a basic pushrod 4 stroke single. Designed to be tough for developing markets at the expense of performance (although it isn't that bad). Honda used to also make the CB125 singles that used an OHC engine (which the CG engine was derived from) which had a couple of extra horse power at the expense of more maintenance (and a head and cam that would become a one piece unit if you ignored the oil changes too much). They also did the CB125T 4 stroke twins which were quicker and higher revving.

Suzuki made the GS125, which is pretty much the equivalent of the CB125 singles.

Yamaha made the SR125 and now make the YBR125. First is a basic 125 OHC 4 stroke with very vague custom styling, while the YBR is again more of a CB125 single equivalent.

2 stroke wise there was also the Yamaha RS125 (disappeared in the early 1980s), Suzuki GP125 and Kawasaki KH125. Including the 100cc bikes (which are no longer that useful as you can't do your test on them) you can add the Honda H100, Kawasaki KH100, Kawasaki KC100, Suzuki GP100 and Yamaha RXS100. And Honda also made the CB100N (essentially a 100cc version of the CB125 single).

After that you have a whole army of sports 125s and off road styled 125s.

All the best

Keith

The 2-stroke Suzuki GP 125 is a lot quicker than the Honda CG, shame the brakes weren't made to match though! I'd choose the GP myself because it's fun, but the Honda CG is more sensible.

Usual advice: get anything, spend £121.50 on passing your tests, sell your 125 and get onto a bike that offers far more value for money.
