With today being the last nice day for a while according to any weather forecast and having a massive pile of uni work to do I thought there'd be no better time to spend all day out on my motorbike. Whilst I've been living in Manchester for about 18 months now I haven't really done any exploring but Svengalie's thread:

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=237104

piqued my interest and I had to go and have a look for myself, especially seeing as it's only 25 miles away from me. I was hoping Ms51ves3 would be free to come and have a look too but he was working or doing something that normal respectable people do on a Monday afternoon Sad

After the humdrum of Manchester city centre and then suburbia for what felt like an eternity I turned off the A6 onto the A625 and saw my first bit of countryside for a while!

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/IMG_2263.jpg

It was frosty all over the place and there were big streaks of ice running up either side of the road in places which kept things interesting as I haven't ridden my bike in anger for a while.

Anyway, I got to the broken bit of road and had a bit of a poke around. It's pretty mental and a good reminder not to mess with mother nature too much, I did wish I'd had a crosser or an enduro bike with me though!

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/IMG_2285.jpg

Looking out towards Castleton:

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/IMG_2286.jpg

I wanted to try and get my bike up on the road but having a heavy muscle bike wasn't really the ideal tool for the job. This is where I was hoping Ms51ves3 prescence would have intervened as he seems a sensible kind of person... But as he was not there I decided to give it a go anyway!

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/IMG_2293.jpg

This is as far up as I went, I thought by this point I'd put my bike through enough and I was already struggling with ground clearance as it was so I didn't really fancy tackling the 6' step!

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/IMG_2296.jpg

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/IMG_2300.jpg

After an interesting ride back to a proper road without dropping my bike (no idea how I did that!) I thought I may as well as go home via the Cat and Fiddle as it was so close. I stopped just outside Speedwell Cavern to get my camera out and take a photo of the cool road going up the valley:

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/IMG_2307.jpg

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/IMG_2310.jpg

Then carried on through the Peak District to the Cat and Fiddle:

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/IMG_2324.jpg

There weren't any bikes there so I didn't stick around. I thought I should tackle Britains most dangerous road one handed though so that I could get some photos for you guys Laughing

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/IMG_2331.jpg

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/IMG_2338.jpg

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/IMG_2351.jpg

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/IMG_2364.jpg

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/IMG_2378.jpg

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/IMG_2395.jpg

After that it was the slog through suburbia back to the city centre just as rush hour and the school runs hit so I at least had a bit of fun filtering.

I'd been meaning to test out some flash triggers I have as I was sure they were broken but after getting home and digging them out they decided to function perfectly so seeing as I'd had a load of fun on my bike I figured I'd take some more photos of it Razz

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/IMG_2428.jpg

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/IMG_2430.jpg

I probably should have cleaned it first though!

All the on-bike photos were taken with a Canon 5Dmk2 handheld with an 8mm Samyang fisheye lens (none of this GoPro rubbish Laughing ). I know my lines are all over the place in the photos but I was kind of concentrating on not smashing up my camera and it was quiet anyway!

Looks like an awesome day out, however as I've been out working all day in full wet weather gear I've been cold riding a quad at 5mph, you must've been freezing getting up any decent speed today!

Nah I was toasty all day, my Dad gave me this kidney belt thing over Christmas which really helped. I even broke out in a sweat when I was walking up the broken road!

Thanks Very Happy I'm using a Canon 5Dmk2, the on-bike shots were with an 8mm fisheye lens and the normal photos of the bike and the road were with a 24-70mm zoom lens.

It was really clear today, amazing blue skies. I was going to stop to take a few photos overlooking Macclesfield but I was enjoying the corners too much after months of riding around Piccadilly Gardens!

I would not have stopped you. I would have joined you. Going to pop there sometime soon and have a gander.

I have a feeling I've actually ridden there on my TZR up to the gate, just without realising what was ahead of me.

Cracking photography as per usual Thumbs Up Karma

I ground out a few times getting up to the flat-ish bit where I took the photos and that was standing over the bike so the suspension was uncompressed, not sure how you'd get on with a load of fairings but I'm happy to help try and push you out if you get stuck Laughing Let me know when you go and I'll come along if I'm about so we can pretend we're on motocross bikes and race the road...

I'd be doing it on the ER5. I don't mind dropping that. Not a chance I would try it on the CBR Laughing

Pfft, you'd be fine Razz

The road through the valley bit was only about a quarter of a mile up a hill, the rest of it was just open stuff over the top of the hills. It was pretty good but there was a bit of ice in the shady patches so I wasn't pushing hard.

Ha ha, good to know my bike is still considered nice when it's covered in dirt, has a cracked front mudguard and is rusting all over Laughing

Unfair! Your bike in any condition always attracts loads of positive comments whenever a picture goes up!

Which 8mm fisheye are you using - pictures are crisp !

Is it the Sigma 8mm F3.5 EX DG ?

Karma for taking pictures one handed while cornering

Samyang 8mm f3.5:

I love it, I've had it for over a year now and it's produced great results everytime.

That's what happens when you get a real bike, none of this plastic fantastic business Laughing Laughing Laughing

The compliments probably say more about your photography skills and having a top notch lense and camera, than the bike, in my opinion Smile

Although I do suspect that a muscle bike is probably a more sensible road bike for spirited riding than an even slightly track focused sports 600.

For web pages the contrast and saturation seem too high (IMO!)
It's all personal taste though, no setting is 'correct'.
