Hi all,

Quick and (hopefully) easy question for you this evening.

My rear suspension seems quite hard, and I'm feeling a lot of the small bumps in the road also on speed bumps it feels like i'm bottomin' out.

It's a new bike to me, so I'm happy to be told that's how it's meant to feel.

However..the rear shock looks like it's compressed quite a bit and there is a fair bit of space above it. Is it as easy as loosening the rings above the spring on it to make it longer and not so ridged?

Thanks for reading and any advice you guys have.

FJ

You say that it feels hard and then that it feels as though it is bottoming out.If you have a look at the rear spring preload it may well be that there is some adjustment left. This will affect your SAG setting. But from what I remember from when a friend had just such a bike, there was only preload adjustment on his rear shock. But after adding more preload to my friends shock it helped some way,but was just not a good enough quality shock for what he was using the bike for ie. a quick road pace.

Later models of the ZZR600 may well come with compression and rebound damping adjuster clickers, but in my friends case there were none.We worked out that it was a very cheap shock for what is otherwise an excellent bike.

The standard shock is squishy soft, only has spring tension adjustment, not that that makes much difference. Sounds as if your shock has seen its finest days. I upgraded mine to a Zx-6 shock, preload and rebound damping, £30 off the bay.
Its not a direct swap, you have to shave the lower mounting to fit the ZZR linkage, 10 mins with a grindstone. I put the resavoir just behind the battery. Well worth the effort.

Thanks. If I could find a new shock, could you assist in the mod and fitting?
