Hi, as you know hein gericke has sale on and Im looking into getting my first leathers some time this year, should I get both the jacket and the trousers together or not?
Looking at getting these with the matching trousers for £260:
https://www.hein-gericke.co.uk/pro-sports-psx-trophy-jacke-schwarz-16377.html
Im asking because being a student I don't know whether to pay all upfront while its cheaper but watch my money for the next few months or pay seperately and pay about £300-320 all together split between two points in the year.
Suggestions?
thanks

edit: is that even a good make?

It's up to you. Your choice. You decide. G'wan, how often do you get the opportunity to do exactly that...make a decision?? And then, if you change your mind in a few weeks time you only have one person to blame dontcha!!! Cool

Laughing

Only you can decide if you can afford to save money overall by buying it all now or need to spread it out.

Looking at it another way It would be like a loan with £40 interest over a few months, it would make more sense to use your interest free overdraft to buy them now.

Nonetheless, given that money is tight, now is a good time of year to buy used leathers. It is a well known fact that leather clothing shrinks over Christmas and there should be loads of perfectly good leathers belonging to fubby chuckers knocking around on eBay and the like.

Check eBay first. I picked up a brand new pair of leather trousers for £70 just the other week. And these were a ladies 22, not some eeny weeny things (I have more to love Wink). There seems to be loads on there at the moment both new and barely used.

Try them on first as they may not fit well.

I would buy both 60% off if you buy both. Init...?

HG leathers are fine. I've had a pair of troos for about seven years. Worn almost every time I use the bike now.

Road Salt-Rain-Hail-Sun still to put a mark on them. ANd those are the cheap end jeans type, same sort of fit as the pro-sport but no slider patches.

I would recommend HG leathers. If they FIT you.

https://www.hein-gericke.co.uk/nikwax-leather-cleaner.html For cleaning the shit off them if you ride on winter roads.
I hang my leathers in the shower and soak them with the hose now and then to get the salt out. It really takes a couple of soak-dry cycles as the salt only seems to weep out as the leather dries. Then clean with the spray. Keeps them supple and shiny.

Buy some student supple leathers on gaybay, ones that don't have pro sports written on them. Idea Thumbs Up Cool

My leathers cost me £850 so I bought Jacket first then trousers a month later rather than just shedding £850 out in a oner. Think it cost about £30 more doing it this way but I wasn't to fussed. Go with what ever you can afford mate, Buy them both if you have the money if not split it down over a month or a few weeks depending how your paid.

I agree with above, but when are you thinking of riding?

If you are already, I'd get the gear ASAP, wouldn't want to have an accident not wearing any.

If it's not till it's all nice and sunny then give yourself time and don't skint yourself out.

I'd recommend the overdraft facility too, was 0% on mine, after I finished Uni I had 3 years to pay it back before interest charges started Wink

If you are going to HG, don't forget this...
https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=237375

might be more sensible then to get them together
