On his way to work along the infamous Tollgate Road Beckton, nice Mr Africa in a transit flatbed pulled straight across him as he was crossing the roundabout, said he thought he'd get over quick enough? witnesses and cctv captured the whole thing which is good, daft git tried to lift my son out of the road before a nice man in a merc stopped him! and stopped him again from moving the bike until the police arrived. Police said they will have him for undue care and attention and as far as their concerned he's 100% to blame. Son is ok, bit battered and bruised but his gear did its job and prevented it from being worse, paramedics on scene told him how refreshing it was to se a young lad wearing the correct gear. Shock for me as the police pulled up to tell me as I was getting my bike out to go to work, mind you another 5mins and I would of rode up to where it happened on my way to work.

Damage to Varadero is quite a bit, fairing, headlights & indicators, handlebars bent, rear panel, clutch and brake lever, rear brake pedal, top box, forks look twisted in stanchions, horn permenetly on and scuffing to outside of tyres is what I can see initially, plus his gear obviously. Main thing is he's fine the rest the insurance can sort out. Will put some pics up of damage later, insurance already on the case which is good. Was a pig to get the bike home for him, clutch wouldn't engage to get it out of gear, had to rock it and get it in neutral by hand, strap all the damaged bit up and wheel it home with front brake binding, well its in the garage now anyway waiting on the verdict.

I hate that road, nobody pays any attention at those roundabouts and its a regular occurence for someone to have a prang there.
Stay safe folks theres a lot of idiots out there!

Ouch, great to hear that he's OK. I just hope Plod turns up some irregularities that get Mr Transit more than a Due Care and Attention rap.

Sorry to hear about it but I'm glad his injuries are only minor.

As Porky Collard (local cop) said to me when I was 17, when I was nursing a swollen knee having rolled my combination over the bonnet of a brand new Sierra - 'If thats the worst that ever happens to you on a bike, you'll be a very lucky boy'.

Gather your evidence as much as you can is the best advice I can give. If you have CCTV then put in a subject access request for that too so the claim doesn't drag on.

Yea, this is a real pet hate of mine.
They just keep coming, it's your right of way but they persist in pushing out until....well, your son has found out.

What I do is, I see it (I expect it on every big Roundabout) I slow and I point in their direction as aggressively as I can make it look on a bike Laughing and I say (they can't hear me) Stop the fuk right there you tosser.

They get the idea though but sometimes it's just luck of the draw I guess.

Get well soon Son of A5tra Thumbs Up

Thanks everyone, he's doing ok, a bit stiff and sore and the bruising is starting to come out, actually he's being a bit positive, says he planned on putting the bike away end of next week in preperation for winter so we have time to get it sorted ready for when the weather picks up or if its wrote off he may do DAS instead of retricted test.
Going to keep an eye out for decent 2nd hand bits.

Well insurance assesor has been round today and bike has been written off, damage is: Forks bent back, handlebars bent, front fairings including headlight, indicators & screen, rear panel, brake lever and brake pedal, top box & dent to tank. such a shame as the varadero was in great nick, had just fitted a new hagon shock, front disc, chain and sprockets. Will have to wait on offer now and see if buy back price is low enough to warrant keeping it and breaking it for spares. Son is going to use insurance pay out for his DAS. Really liked that bike Crying or Very sad

Took their sweet time assessing the bike - make sure you get compensation for every day that he's been without it (or a cheque for its full value).

Driver addmitted full liability, police are doing him for undue care and attention, son has been keeping a diary of symptoms and things he cant quite do since the accident and all receipts for his compensation claim. Its took a while due to all the paperwork back and forwards between solicitors and insurance company, plus the solicitor thought the insurance had arranged for the assessor which they hadn't, solicitor then arranged it straight away. solicitors are being very good and seem quite thorough on what he can claim for including loss of earnings other transport costs, inability to ride again just yet because of his knee injury and lack of confidence to get back on a bike yet, all his gear etc.

Will keep you posted.

Proper result, sounds like you've found an honest solicitor. Does he moonlight as the easter bunny? Wink
