Hi, as above. Replacing tail light with 'shotgun' style led lights so will be needing to make a new surround. Plan is to get some wire mesh, shape it, then get a fibreglass kit to make the new panel. Good idea? Any other suggestions? Thanks, Grant

have tried making and have fixed may a thing with fiberglass kits.

make sure the model you are moulding is semi symetrical, dont worry if its not just put plenty of layers on and it can always be sanded down.

i would mention to just to do the 'face' or outside with a couple of layers first, make sure it fits, then add a couple more layers, once thats dried, turn overto put some layers on the inside as you can build the fittings etc into it if your feeling confident.

once all dried and you know it fits sand down (slight snad down on inside as you dont want fiberglass splinter when handling it they are nasty), and you may need some filler in spots on the face just to help final shaping if something real fancy.

once dried n cured, get a decent grey primer on it so you can see inperfections to fill and or sand, then prime again inside and out so its all got a coat.

then paint, and laquor to suit.

i will mention if you enjoy this then try experiment with the paint, either put coat of one colour wait till dried, laquor that, then put a wet coat on of a diffrent colour and whilst wet roughly put some cling film on (so its slightly crumpled in places), leave for 5 mins then take off, the cling film make a weird watery veiny pattern if done well and looks mad. once dried laqour a couple of times for good shine.

once all dried give a buff up.... presto... your own design work

cost you less than £30, and prob take you 2 days (weekend) to do.

but you got something personalised. if the paint goes well do the rest of your bike, thats why i said just give it an experiment.. nothing to lose.
