Protection against salt and grime

Just washed salt off bike and dried it off nicely this eve, while doing so i was wondering if anyone bothers to coat metal bits in winter?
I except that if i ride in winter i'm likely to see the affects one way or another but i'd like to try and prevent if i can, and still ride.

Scott oiler has 3 good reviews but was curious if anyone has any cheaper tactics? other than wash and dry after every ride all winter.
How about a light smattering of WD40?

Ahem. If you buy it in litre bottles, it'll do you for years and work out a fair bit cheaper than the aerosol cans. It looks expensive, but it's cheaper than the parts that it's protecting.

I use FS365 after every wash. Nice bonus with the Anticorrosion sprays is that if you do the fairings too the bike is sooooooo easy to wash the next time, dirt just falls off Smile

I tried an experiment with ACF50 a few years ago.
I got two bolts, and coated one of them with the stuff, then left them both out for the Winter in my damp shed.
By March, the ACF coated bolt was as rusty as the other.
Personally I don't believe there is any substitute for regular cleaning

I sprayed ACF50 all over my brake discs like a total faggot Rolling Eyes

I had to brake like an absolute bastard on the motorway to try and burn it off and then the smoke that came off the discs when i stopped Shocked

personally...where there are cables etc wd40 or engine case/fins,where there is chrome and metal work exposed,get a tub of vaseline and a soft brush and lightly do the wheels and chrome/spokes/metal work...it will look grubby after a bit but will still be there and wash off come april.(check its still there now and again)....dont do discs or exhausts...just metal polish on exhausts and grease on springs /cable ends etc.....a light rag is also handy for the wheels/lamps etc..dont use on the lens!fairings soap and water ,a good car wash is fine,(not the drive in) argh wished I hadnt started this now...bet some kids gonna gob vaseline all over bike/brakes and seat/spray his lights and then go through a car was instaed of macdonalds.if you dont fancy it DONT GO OUT!

I did say dealers...white,4 small shops round here..loads of cheap good cars,,.read it properly first....I went to get the missus a virago for cash saturday at a dealers in notts...parked car in their car park,face in...got the bike jump started...ok..can she just take it round the block...No youll have to book a test ride for another day sez he....Id come 70mile looking at a few,cash in hand...forget it..how many rusty cars do you see? They can prevent it on bikes as well!
