I've got an 01 code on all parts of my licence because I took my test wearing glasses on both occasions. I believe that my eyesight is good enough to read a numberplate from 20 metres although I haven't actually paced it out to test myself.

I used to ride with my glasses all the time. However, when it is raining or exceptionally cold my glasses get covered in water and/or steam that I can't get off. So actually I can see much better without them. So I now ride with no glasses pretty often.

How likely am I to get done for this? I was planning to get it and my photo changed when I send the licence in at the end of my restriction (a years time). Should I get it done now?

Have you considered contact lenses?

Was the main reason I switched from glass. Pain the arse when riding.

Best decision I've ever made. Thumbs Up

Oh, and before you say I can't put things in my eyes, that's what everyone says, try it first, then you'll realize it isn't that bad.

I tried them a couple of years ago and spent an hour in the opticians trying to get them in my eyes. Apparently I have a massive flinch reflex and completely failed. I'm considering giving it another go but I'm not exactly hopeful.

Would love to go with contacts, but my eyes get irritated very easily.

I can manage about 3hrs tops before they become too painful to continue wearing - and I'm not going through the faff of taking them out when I'm in work and putting them in again for the way home.

Tried monthlys, dailies etc. No better. Boo.

It would make life so much easier on the bike if I could wear them.

Ask your optician to check your eyes, they will do it for you via the board you read when you do a sight test, also see if they can let you have a trial of Acuvue TruEye contacts, I have extremely dry eyes, and they're the best lenses I've tried, they're something ridiculous like 99% water*.

If the Cops stop you and you're not wearing your glasses they will do a sight test at the required distance if they see the code on your license.

*It's something like that.

You feel them as soon as they go in, a couple of blinks, feels like they're not even there. Thumbs Up

I was overwhelmed when they were first in, when doing the 'trail month'. Seeing with having something on my face was amazing. Only then did I realize having my glasses on my face was so inconvenient. People don't realize the amount of the times glasses get in the way of the smallest things.

If you can, definitely try and get them again. You won't regret it if they work. Just relax, your eyes are quite versatile, they're not going to dissolve just because something touches them. I think generally people assume that your eyes are so delicate, which they are, but can take a beating none the less.

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I will try contacts again when I can be bothered...probably at my next (extremely overdue) eye test. Until then I'll try and work out how far 20 metres is and see if I would pass the test if pulled over by the police.

If that is all that would happen and I wouldn't be found 'otherwise in accordance of my licence' I think I'm good Smile

got contact lenses recently, they're a pain to put in at first. it's been a month and am about alright now, takes a few minutes to put on in mornings. also take eyedrops with me for throughout the day. wonder if what they say about eating carrots for better eyesight is true.
