Should have a frame number because that's what gives you the reg number, seen "unknown" for the engine number usually on an import bike, but never for a frame.
It's more than likely a DVLA cock up I'd give them a bell to check.

Would you have a look at the head stock to see if the number is clear and tell us if it is or not.
Just a guess but it could have been stolen/recovered and the numbers ground off.

Oh and gratz on your change on this forum. Thumbs Up

All Bros are jap imports and it just means it does not have original engine.I think.
No good or bad really.

I believe the Bros was made for 4 years but it could be 6 starting from 1988.
If I seen one with 12k on the clock I would be shocked.
There are 4 Bros models and 2 engine.
The later model had the oil flow to the head by pipe on the outside the earlier ones were inside.

Doesn't mean they're definitely true, could have had new clocks at some stage due to malfunction or crash damage. Or they could indeed be correct for the chassis, but the engine replaced through poor maintenance or, again, crash damage.

I wouldn't worry too much, I've heard its common for imported bikes to have unknown or a ' - ' on the V5 (as stated earlier) my CBR4 has unknown for the engine number, but it comes up as an '88 motor in an '88 frame, it doesn't look any cleaner or dirtier so its been in there some time, I have no reason to suspect it isn't the right engine.

It's the same on the v5 , just says unknown for eng no. Mine is an import and the bike I had before was the same too.
It's just that the no wasn't written on the forms by whoever registered it in this country not a problem at all

To register your BROS it only needed to be MOT'd and the MOT presented to DVLA. As this was back in the days of hand written MOT's there was no box on the MOT for an engine No. as a result there was no engine No. put on the V5.

It is unlikely the engine has been changed and unlikely it has been around the clock.

Hi

Engine number isn't compulsory for registering a bike so quite often are left off.

Not sure on Hondas but certainly until recently Japanese market Yamahas rarely if ever had engine numbers. Neither my YSR50 nor my TZR250 have any signs of an engine number stamped on the engine.

All the best

Keith

what would happen if there was no engine or frame number? Can it still be registered?
Ive heard that shotblasting can wear down the frame number, is that true?

Hi

Engine number missing is not a problem. Although an engine number that has been removed does suggest the engine has a dodgy history.

Don't think you can register it with a missing frame number. Shot blasting shouldn't really have a major effect, but powder coating will make it hard or impossible to read.

All the best

Keith

japanese market bikes don't have engine numbers, just the model prefix, great for thieves as they don't have to disguise the number!

How very strange as back here your bike had 60k on it. It would appear that unless you have purchased another BROS400 you have clocked your own bike and not told yourself.

If that is the BROS you have it has also had a respray and has the wrong front mudguard.
