Has anyone ever demanded a deferral if the police are inspecting or wish to inspect your bike?

If, for example, the plod suspected my bike to not be restricted (although it is) could i demand a deferral under the Road Traffic Act?

The two exemptions are

- The vehicle has been involved in an accident and it is requisite a test should be carried out forthwith by himself or another and he may detain the vehicle until it has been completed, or

- the vehicle is so defective it ought not be allowed to continue before being tested. The test should be carried out forthwith.

Defective is considered to be faults such as brake lights, lights at night etc from what I've read.

Haven't done it, most certainly would if I thought it was remotely in my interest. Don't argue it, if Plod is in any doubt, ask him to check with the station. RTA 1988 Section 67 (6).
