Just checked my aging tyres and was surprised to find that the rear is Nylon, and the front is Polyester. WTF?

Since when did tyres cease to be rubber?

They still are, bonded to nylon, polyester or whatever is used to make the carcass.

Unless you have a shopping trolley!

there should be an oblong indent in the tyre somewhere along the side wall - with numbers inside it

these are the date stamp of the tyre, most if not all tyres have it

Both are bias ply, and yes the tread and sidewalls is nylon on the rear and polyester on the front. Shocked

I should add that one is Trail Wing TW41 OE fitment.

The other an Avon Gripster

Both will be replaced soon.

And so do most tyres.

The whol thing is mostly made from synthetic rubber and plastics-that includes nylon, polyester, kevlar, you name it.

My Z rated radials have nylon and polyester plies.
