 |
|
So, I am considering buying a new "sports" exhaust for my SV. Not only do I want to be heard as well as seen* on the motorway, but I want one for a bit of fun.
It sounds nice enough with the standard exhaust, though it could sound soooo much better
Also, I think it is the only thing letting the side down, looks wise.

So, my only dilemma is that I live in a fairly quiet road surrounded by old(ish) neighbours. Being a very neighbourly neighbour I do not want to irritate anyone. Im sure that I must currently annoy some of them whilst letting my bike warm up on these cold mornings (and im sure my occasional 5.30am start doesnt help), as my bike sits within 20feet or so from their bedroom windows.
Now, im sure that they wont mind too much, especially as most of the older chaps used to ride and strike up conversations about bikes all the time But I am not the kind of person to set out to annoy people, especially the ones who's houses are attached to mine
So, my question/point is this: Do any of you have the same problem/dilemma? Do you just simply not give two sh*ts ? Or is there some other way around it?

I don't let my engine sit there warming up. Ride it gently. You'll get the knack of easing off the choke or fast idler as it warms. However, when I rode in the snow I did let it warm up as I didn't want the extra hassle of slipping the clutch.
It's not very often I have the bike running in the back garden but when needs must I knock on either side and let them know I'll be an hour or so. Everyone has to do noisy stuff from time to time. ____________________ Diabolical homemade music Bandcamp and Soundcloud

Just make an effort to be the "nice lad down the road" and they'll not mind. If you want I'll just open the taps when I come to visit, just so they get used to it ____________________ Current bike: ZX6R J1

The exhaust on my SV650S and on the GSX-R1000 are loud as hell, you can hear me about two minutes before I get to the house. !
I live close to other people who aren't really bike fans and I just showed them the bikes we own, they said "Ooh that's loud!" and I agreed.
Also, as has been said, don't leave your bike sat there on idle it's really not worth it. Just start it up and go if you can.
The key is just not to take the piss. Don't sit there at 5:30am revving your bike trying to warm it up, screaming it down the road etc etc. If you do have to wake up early to go and you're on the bike, knock on the neighbour's door and say:
"Hey X, I have an early start tomorrow and I am going on the bike. I'll try my best to be as quiet as possible. Just letting you know".
Stuff like that tends to go a long way.
My final statement is this:
There are people near me who complain about how loud my bike is no matter when I am using it, be it midday or late evening. The key thing is, in my mind, as long as I'm not taking the piss then they can shove it.
At the end of the day it's there for my safety and enjoyment. If I start it up and ride away, yes it's loud but it's only for a few seconds. I do what I can and if that's not enough they can do one.
Cheers! ! ____________________ "Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul."

Not really bothered, it's stupidly loud being about 6 inches long with no baffle. As was the KTM but they aren't bothered or if they are, they haven't said anything.
I don't go out early in the morning and don't usually go out late at night so I suppose it doesn't piss them off too much but the most you get out of the neighbours here is "hello" so I don't care anyway.
Just won this on egay for £77 though

I've ridden it down the street with no exhaust on and to be honest, it didn't sound any different to having that tiny little slip on. Yeah I know it doesn't look great but it sounds insane and I like that.
This new one I just got on ebay should arrive next week so will try get a video of the difference. |

Noisy exhausts, I'm the boss of them
If you care that much mate, buy a removable baffle, start the bike and warm it up if you want. Go to the end of the road and take it out. Takes 20 secs with an allen key. |
