Brake Bleeding Recommendations?

As part of the what seems a long drawn process of servicing "The Lemon", next on the list was replacing the front brake pads. Managed to get the old ones out easy enough, spent a good hour cleaning the old pads paint of the shimming plates. Stick the plates on the new EBC's and slide in to the caliper ................ "hmmmmm there is no way that very minimal gap will accommodate the brake disc, I need to push the piston in". Would it go in?? Like heck it would .

In the end I ended up having to strip the caliper all together which I didn't want to as I have no way of bleeding the front brake.

So can anyone recommend a decent brake bleeding kit (or alternative) to get The Lemon back on the road?

Pump the pistons out a bit and clean them..... Carefully.

Then something like a G clamp to press them back in. Make sure its square on the pistons.

Oh and Workshop is the best place for this type of stuff... Plenty of people view and post in there, and you will get usefull answeres as well.

You don't need any fancy kit to bleed brakes. just a length a clear tubing, a jar and a spanner to open the bleed nipple.

pump lever, hold it on, open nipple, close nipple,release lever. repeat until clean brake fluid comes out with no bubbles in it.
make sure to keep the reservoirtopped up with clean fluid or you'll get air in the system.

You mean a reverse bleeding tool.



You can do it with a few simple bits of kit, costs about £2
You'll need a large syringe and some tubing.

Take the top off the reservoir, and remove the rubber gasket.

Using the syringe and tubing, suck the old brake fluid out, and dump it.

Put the syringe onto the nipple at the caliper.

Open the nipple.

Suck the remaining fluid out, and dump.

Fill the syringe with new fluid.

Attach to the nipple and squirt in new fluid until it comes out into the reservoir.

Close the nipple.

Top up the reservoir to the max level.

Bleed the brakes normally until air stops coming out. Use at least half the reservoir.

Use the old pads to push the pistons back as far as they will go. They should end up flush with the caliper body.

Fill the reservoir to the max level. This will stop it overflowing when you fit new pads.

Re-fit the rubber and top onto the reservoir.

Pump the brakes until they start working.
