Hi there. The R6 is uncomfortable? I'm working towards getting the licence (still only on a CBT at my age Embarassed ) with the aim of getting an R1. However, my fiancee wanted an R1 but thinks it would be a little on the big side, so we figured an R6 would be a great alternative, are they uncomfortable to ride???

TIP: Most sportbikes are uncomfortable to ride!

They put a load of your weight down through your arms. Give it an hour and you'll be aching.

It does get easier, but if you want a bike to use everyday\commuting then I wouldn't go for a sportsbike, IMO.

If you have a car and the bike's only for the weekend, then go for it Thumbs Up Very Happy

Hope this helps

Mark

The R6 is ok as far as sports 600's go, the older models used to have a fairly poor steering lock making tight controlled turns fairly difficult.

Most sports bikes put a fair bit of weight through the wrists making slower/town riding a bit heavy going, but not overly uncomfortable that you can't put up with it.

If you read the group test of the recent sports 600's, most of the magazines tend to say that the new R6 is a bit of a softer option than the competition. This isn't necessarily a bad thing as this often makes it more of a useable road bike.

It depends what you want to use it for really and as long as you accept that you have to reach an acceptable compromise with a bike then it's not a worry.

Best thing to do is go out to a dealer and have a sit on some of the contenders and arrange some test rides. You might find that something else suits you better in the end.

Thanks peeps... Gotta get the license out of the way first (must book that theory test!), but the R1 and R6 will only be used for weekends down Matlock and such like.

Mind you, got to get that little thing called money sorted out for it too Wink

Well the r6 is a lovely bike.
When i first passed me test i had 2 400`s,the vfr400 was a great bike to get a bit of pratice one.
Then after 6 months hubby brought me the r6.
The only reason for the r6 was at that time it was the only 600cc bike i could reach and feel comfi on.(short arse ya see 5`2)
After having the bike for 2 years and doing many mods on her,,and also putting a diff back shock so i could adjust the riding height,so i could reach the floor more.I also had the bike set up to my weight etc and riding style the r6 was a brill bike to ride.
It is very quick, yes has a poor turn, but u get used to that, when set up well,,it handles like a dream.
The r6 is brill for short blasts and brill on track.
But once my confidence built up and up i wanted to ride further.
I found the r6 to be very uncomfi on long journeys.I have weak wrists anyway but this just made things worse.
Hence why i upgraded to the r1.
I had ridden my hubbys old model r1 `99`, few years back and was set to get that model.
But after sitting on the 02 model ,it was very similar to the r6.
Now the R1 i am still really tippy tippy toe but doesn`t bother me as after riding 3 years ya confidence grows.
The r1 is more over the front,,,,which so far seems ok,,not much back ache.
Great riding for hours no wrist ache, and the fuel injection is good Very Happy
Don`t have to work those gears so much,,hehehehehehe
But i must admit there is now way i think i would have got on with the r1 if i had really rideen the r6 like i did.Cos the r1 really has some power behind her Thumbs Up
Good luck on ya cbt etc
Tracy

Thanks sweet, that information helped a lot. She's a little taller at about 5'4. She wants to start with an R6, but I may be able to persuade her to start on something with a little less power Confused

But knowing that she should be okay on an R1 height-wise (with some confidence), has certainly made her day. Now I just need to get a job with a high enough wage to pay for all of this Crying or Very sad - don't suppose anyone needs an IT System Admin Wink

well at that height she should have no prob. Very Happy
As long as she takes it easy at first and gives the r6 respect then it will respect back, like any bike really.
Have fun

Welcome Smile.

Why not look at hiring a bike for trackdays?
You can get a pretty sorted r6 for £200 and if you do crash you pay a lot less than if you're on your own bike with road fairings.
Also, I dunno about you, but I still don't think I''m good enough to be able to thrash a litre bike around a track, whicle at least in a few ways I can start to push the limits of a 600.
