So, I finally own a bike,
It's a MBK F1 Nitro, in lamborghini green.

So the issues:

Front mudguard/wheel cover thing (im not very technical) has duct tape over a couple cracks.

Also, its not all that shiny, colours seem faded. There's a few sports where its starting to rust (just above the speedometer, a little on the pipes leading to my brand new exhaust, on the area that the seat locks onto, and on the centre stand).

She's also missing a mirror, anybody have a idea on what size the mirror thread is likely to be?? 8mm or 10mm.

Also, theres a few scrapes from where she's been dropped, and some of the stickers are abit damaged and manky, not to mention pink :l.

So what can i do to get her looking like brand new again (and not chavy)
Oh, and whoever is the biggest help, can name my bike for me! Thanks Wink

If this is your first bike and you're about to start riding it, consider that you may do further damage.

Best possible option I'd say is to keep it as it is as far as the fairings go.
Sand down and give a good coating of red oxide primer, followed by paint of your choice.

Doesn't sound much wrong with it at all, if the front mudguard is that much of an issue then try eBay for a replacement, same for the missing mirror. Get the (pink) stickers off, decide what colour you'd like & treat it to some new paint (clean up the rusty bits beforehand obviously). This would clean up the few scrapes & scars, I resprayed one of my old Ped's with a rattlecan so it didn't cost much at all. If you go this route remember preparation is king, take your time with it. Thumbs Up

Your bike is called peter and you need to paint a massive wang on it.

Leave it as it is (chances are what you spend doing it up will hardly make a difference to re-sale value), put your money into getting a full license, then buy a bigger bike!

anyways, jokes aside, fix up the mud guard if you must but leave it as it is. Any money you chuck at it you won't get back, so really it wont be worth it, unless you plan on keeping it for years to come.

Sadly, he's going to just miss the window to sit his test under the current scheme. Sad

So he's on that... thing... for a whole year. Sad Sad

Anyway, I agree with the developing meme, don't spent a penny on it that you don't have to, especially on cosmetics. You could get it looking mint (green), then the powerband could snap the next day and you'll be stuffed.

Mirrors will be 8mm most likely. Bigger bikes tend to be 10mm though you can get adapters for each way. Yamaha mirrors are different as the left hand mirror has a reverse thread.

Thats a good point - as MBK is the french company owned by yamaha, be careful if you go the aftermarket route Razz

What pipes? I'd get major stuff like this sorted first, you REALLY don't want the stand to break.

I think it's the R/H mirror that has the reverse thread. The way to remember is to imagine the mirror getting knocked from the front and which way it would turn. If it tightens when knocked from the front, it'll be a reverse thread, (on most Yamahas that is).

That's the way it works, but you've got your left and right the wrong way around. Pushing the right mirror from the front with a conventional clockwise thread will tighten it, but with a reversed thread it'd be undoing it.
So normal thread on the right, reverse thread on the left so both tighten when blown by the wind.

Mopeds must have pedals, hence the ped. I'd say bike is a more apt term.

bike
noun /baɪk/ [C]

Definition
• a bicycle
It would be better for the environment if more people used bikes rather than cars.
My youngest child is learning to ride a bike.
informal a motorcycle

motorcycle
noun /ˈməʊ.təˌsaɪ.kl ̩//ˈmoʊ.t ̬ɚ-/ [C] (also motorbike)

Definition
a vehicle with two wheels and an engine

moped
noun /ˈməʊ.ped//ˈmoʊ-/ [C]

Definition
a small motorcycle which also has pedals (= parts which you press with your feet to move forward) which can be used when starting it or travelling up a hill

Sure, 35 years ago.

Wikepedia so you KNOW it's true wrote:
The term moped describes any low-powered motor driven cycle with an engine capacity not greater than 50 cc (3.1 cu in) and a maximum design speed of no more than 50 km/h (31 mph). Machines registered prior to 1 September 1977 as mopeds had to have pedals, but engine power was unrestricted, and many could top 50 mph (80 km/h) (most famously the Yamaha FS1-E or "Fizzy").

Do you have a photo? If it's mechanically sound then just give it a good clean and polish and replace the mudguard with a cheap universal one if necessary - or get one from a breaker's.
