Quick question about riding in sand

Just came to mind that it wouldn't exactly do a drive chain much good, hence I imagine many adventure styled bikes being shaft driven!

However, if you were to use a chain driven bike, I'am guessing you'd have to seriously clean or even replace the chain and sprockets used in the desert area?

Apparently an automatic oiler can help because it will keep flinging the sand out, rather than making it stick to the chain for that 'grinding paste'.

When I first went to the middle east I went to a few dealerships hoping to get tax free cheap lid or gear, I wondered about this. Saw a couple of chain runners that seemed to clean the chain.

Something like an MZ style enclosed chain would be suitable.
